I was hoping to stay in shape this winter by riding on the fire roads in the woods. Then we got hammered over Christmas and I couldn't ride at all because of that. After a week or so the roads got packed enough that I could ride, but still not go all that far. We did get a decent melting last week, but since then it has snowed at least 4 times. And someone drove on one of the roads with tires that make it really hard to ride. If my daughter wasn't wasting all my money in college I would have a fat bike and ride all I want up there, but hopefully that drain on the finances will be over in 5 years or so.

Yay! Snow melted. Sky sunny. Roads dry. Me, RIDING! I got to do some errandry on my bicycle today! I thought the wind was going to be bad, but it was perfectly fine for the 5 measly miles I rode. I'm just happy to be able to ride again, even if it was only for a half hour...

I took a road bike for a ride Monday. Everything was dry and clean enough. I put the studded tire MTB back under the covers. Snowstorm coming today-tomorrow 6"+. Predictions are for wet heavy snow. The worst kind to ride in. It was over 40F yesterday. I'm ready for dry clean roads, not slush.

Wind has dropped-Rain has not appeared for a few days and the temp has gone up to make it comfortable outdoors.

So what did I do for the last 3 days? Worked in the garden to get it straight so I can ride later this week.

Forecast for the next 3 days is Rain and plenty of it. Looks like the ride will be Sunday now.

It's still looking good for Saturday - partly cloudy and 45 - so I contacted my LBS to see if they might have one of the bikes on my short list available in my size for a test ride.

If it's anything like what we got in Illinois, slush, then freeze. Then warming the very next day.

I've been out each of the last three days -- Tuesday was glorious! But it was just teasing us. Wednesday... Well, Wednesday looked like this:

Does anybody know any good recipes for ground hog?
... That little varmint lied to us!

Awoke this morning to 8 fresh inches of snow. Upper 40's this weekend, perhaps it will end soon. This is certainly not last winter.

in a sheltered backyard spot, I had crocuses in bloom in the snow on Wednesday.

Today it was 63F / 17C and the spring peeper frogs were loud on the ride today.

Looking up in SE Michigan! Yesterday was 40 degrees, 34 or so wind chill, overcast but no precip. Wife and I went out for a smooth-hills 8-miler, just to get our legs moving - this was after 1.5 hours of Iyengar yoga - we did that in about 1.1 hours - slow, but it's a start. Today the temps were up to 50s, not much wind, but scary radio forecasts of fog, rain, and sleet. Intellicast forecast 30% precip all day and it was sunny so we went out - 8.7 miles, 1.3 hours, lot's more hill content. Legs had by this time recovered from Saturday, so the riding went real well.

Hope things are improving in Chicago, too!

A few good days last week but it started Sunday with the temp dropping and the wind rising. Woke to a fine covering of snow yesterday but the wind stopped it getting deep although there must be a big drift of it somewhere. By Evening and the South East of the UK is at a standstill. Roads closed everywhere and plenty of people stuck in cars overnight. There is not much snow but there have ben even fewer of these about to clear the roads

Had to post this as they have been a rare sight over the past few days- Probably stuck in the traffic jams somewhere.

What rotten weather. Nine inches of snow on the ground, and the early morning temp was 10 degrees here in Nebr. All that and its only 8 days away from the start of spring. Last year, I probably had 300 miles on my bike already!!

After my first bike ride last friday when it was 35F, sunny and calm winds, spring is now on official backorder.

Today? About 7" fresh snow, 18F, and winds at 25mph with occasional 45mph gusts. And lets not forget the lake effect snow. Our snowpack and banks just gained in size what was lost last week. UGH.

The weekend in Pittsburgh was absolutely beautiful -- 68 degrees and sunny. But, today mid 30's and I got caught in a snow squall -- the first time I've ridden WHILE it was snowing... But, I think spring is TRYING to get here!

We had great weather yesterday. I was really happy that I had cranked out those spin bike miles. I wasn't able to change my tempo much but I didn't have to stop pedaling to coast at any point. That was sort of cool.

We hit 72° here yesterday afternoon, riding was very nice save those NW winds that got a little gusty at times. Supposed to gradually warm up for at least a week now. No rain forecast for that period too. It is mileage time for me.

We have been fortunate again this year with another mild winter. There wasn't too many days that we couldn't ride due to weather conditions; and for us that's rain. We didn't even have a freeze warning this year and ended up with a bumper crop of strawberries and tomatoes.
