Did a 200 k brevet on saturday in eight hours, no training sunday and monday and two long medium hard hill repeats that went very well today. I,ve done three long rides in the last month and find that to be a great way to get in shape.

Yesterday - rode to work and back again on a beautiful Spring day. 22 miles. (Raining tonight.) Took the long way home from work - scoping out a route for the ride home on Bike to Work Day. I have to be at work too early on BTWD to help lead a ride in but will help on the return in the afternoon. May 17.

I hit the local time trial practice for the first time this year (it's just the 3rd one). Without training this year or riding as much as I'd like, and with wicked NNE-NNW winds and temps in the high 80s I'm not embarrassed to admit I kicked my own butt. Looking forward to Thursday's recovery ride.

I did 8+ miles on the rail trail yesterday. This brings my total up to 100 miles on the year and I can now start adding mileage to my rides. This, of course, assumes that spring actually arrives.

Had an eventful ride this afternoon. I headed over to the local bike cooperative to get some information on a wheel building class they are offering. After killing a bit of time and looking at some of their rehabilitated bikes I headed out again and hit a bike path that I don't get to use much. Since we had the ice storms a couple of weeks ago there is a lot of twigs and other debris on the paths. Sure enough the flat fairy was hiding in some of the debris and I got to replace the rear tube. I connected with one of my usual MUPs and was off on some familiar territory. For some odd reason there were a lot of old folks (I am 57 so I can still point out cyclist much older than me) on mounain bikes this afternoon. I guess the sun and warm weather (68° S Wind 16 mph) brought out a bunch of retirees. Good to see them out. I was sort of hoping that a few would give chase as I hammered by, but they were all content at their own pace. Made it back and I still have to repair the spare tube in the seat bag.

It was a very pretty day here and I wanted to get out to check my adjusted cleat setup on my shoes. I didn't need anything hard so I headed up to the BRP to ride to the highpoint from the tunnel, about 9 miles and 1650' up then back down. As I started I ran into a touring cyclist. He had been on the road 65 riding days from Reading California to here in the Smokies. I rode with him to the top, an easy ride for me unloaded compared to his heavy touring bike and trailer. At the top we talked some and then I wished him luck on his way to NYC.

Rode to work again today. 20 miles. Mid-30's this morning but shouldn't be too many more cold mornings.

24 miles around Kennewick and then back over the Columbia River to Pasco and home. Last about 10 miles I had a great tailwind and averages just under 26 mph. Glorious memory brought back of ability gone bye. Actually dropped a young feller on an Orbea Orca. Of course, I neglected to tell him I was racin'.

c_gallagh got his TT bike going; I rode domestique & Merkxx and was dropped frequently during his intervals. He kicked his own butt and I had a fun recovery ride. Lovely day, a bit of wind but nothing to blow us over, and overall fun.

Did my 'postal loop' today. It's about 12 miles and still cold, about 34 degrees with a cold wind. It is about 750 feet of descent so it got pretty cold but by the time I came back to the road home I warmed back up. It's funny, in Thailand this winter I was looking for stops to get out of the sun, now I look for places to warm up!

33 windy miles that kicked my butt today. Other than the wind, the weather is perfect for a bike ride.
