Giant frame Waranty
So I found a hairline crack on my 2010 TCR Adv SL about mid way down the seat tube where the TCR logo is. The crack didn't appear to be big, but it did stretch from the side to the front of the tube. I took it to where I bought it, they took some pics, and told me it looked like the carbon was damaged. The bike has never been crashed, there is no chips or external damage anywhere near the crack. The mechanic at the shop thought it an odd spot for a crack, and he thought it looked like a warranty issue. They asked to keep the bike and wait for a reply from Giant.
I am hoping if it is warrantable, that I would get a newer frame as I would think they do not have any 2010's left. I just hope, if it turns out to be warranty, that they dont try and say, well its a 2010 so the TCR Adv is comparable so that's what were giving you instead of a SL. Well see. They submitted the pics today.

Shimano Certified
If it means anything anymore, when my friend back a few years ago had a Giant Warp get cracked from a freeriding career(high school) they replaced it with an NRS-1 since they didn't make warps at the time. Functionally a considerable improvement. Giant has generally been pretty good with their warranty claims fulfillment. So far I have never needed the warranty for my own fleet, but I still own almost all Giants because they make a good product and have treated friend's claims well.

If it's a manufacturer's defect, it's a lifetime warranty. If the frame no longer exists, or is out of stock, the manufacturer will generally do some type of "deal" to take care of the customer.

So, if you get a new frame, do they then switch all of your parts over to the new frame, free of charge?

I took my 2010 tcr advanced back to the shop in dec, having purchased it in feb 2011, and it took a while, but they replaced with a 2011 tcr advanced so i'm really happy. the SL has different carbon and slightly different frame shape (nicer down tube), so i don't imagine they'd try to palm you off with a standard tcr advanced. The 2012s are still pretty fresh so i'd guess they'd give you a 2011 but the stock of the SLs may differ.
moral of the story, giant are pretty good with the warranty thing.

I'm pretty sure my LBS does but I do know one locally that doesn't...so I guess it depends on the shop.

Thanks for the responses. I'm hoping for an answer this week on the claim. The mechanic made mention, that if some of my old parts didn't fit, he would try and get them to pay for parts that would. This sounded odd to me. I figured the mechanic would know if 2010 parts would, or wouldnt fit, on a new frame. So it sounded to me as if there were going to be parts that didnt fit. Not sure if they changed the bottom bracket?

I bought a 2011 Giant tcr advanced off CL $1000 and found a hairline crack on the seat tube, called the seller and he was being an a$$, so I took my chances and took it the LBS, and they issued a good faith crash warranty, since I didnt have the original receipt and charged me $756 for a brand new frame. Took 3 weeks.
