Advice for Old Gitane

Hi everyone!

I have what I'm pretty sure is a Gitane1984 Espirit in very rough shape. I hate to discard things like this, but it would be daunting to restore it even though I'm capable of it. Are there enthusiasts out there who might like it as a project or for parts?

I recognize that it's not worth any money. I would give it it away.

I'd welcome any ideas or stories about similar bikes.

Local Bike Co-op Donation

Not sure where you are but if you are in a city with a local bike co-op, they could make use of it.

checked U.S. market Gitane catalogue of 1983 and no Espirit model listed

found an Esprit model listed in UK catalogue of 1982

combination of Campag Sport chainset with steel wheel rims an odd one...

Hello tmurphy39,

Welcome to the forum.

I have images of the U.S. market Gitane catalogue of 1984 and it does show the Esprit model and the U.S. market Gitane 1984 price list did have the Esprit model.

The Esprit was listed as model no. 2817 and listed as new for 1984, This was the second least expensive model, between the Allure and the Super Challenger. High tensile, lugless construction and colours were red or black.
