Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Airone R3 Saddle

have always used Airone saddles without issue however new R3 version in same size is making sit bones sore It was installed in the exact same spot as prior saddle any thoughts on any "break in" period that will alleviate this? thanks

I've never had to break in a saddle. I have had to break in my butt for times I haven't ridden in a while. And that might take 2 to 3 weeks of regular 3 times a week riding to entirely get over it.

I think the idea of "breaking in" saddles is from the days of Brooks... I mean yore. There's not enough to my Ariones to break in.

My brother in law sent me a 10 year old Arione classic. They only came in the narrowest size then. I was suprised how well it felt but figured with out a relief cut out I would go numb and it was too narrow. So based on how I liked this old saddle, I ordered a new R3 with the relief cut out in size large. I never got it to feel good, the wide spots curved out more sharply and the edges were sharper and dug into the top of my thighs. I ended up trading it at a LBS for a new take off Prologo Kappa space. This one is ridable. I use the old Arione on other bikes and I like it for about an hour. I'm 68 and don't think I will ever be completely satisfied with any saddle.
