Exclusive: Cycling NZ unveil revolutionary new Olympic bikes - Sport - NZ Herald News
Sweet looking sprint frame, very simplistic.

It has a more abrupt taper out from the rim and flattens out a lot quicker. Different lines to the lenticular wheels. I wondered why they were using the standard fork which sat close to the rim after BC's finding with using the wide fork design. Now the frames have been unveiled and all is clearer

The most interesting things to me are the BB drop of the Avanti Pursuit and Sprint frames. The Pursuit has a drop of 58mm and the Sprint has a drop of 40mm.
It seems that they took how the bikes would be used into careful consideration.
That's also very cool about them building discs from scratch as opposed to going with the standard Mavics.

The wide forks proved faster when using 3-5 spoke wheels. With discs, the narrow forks have been faster.

I do not trust news from the Mail without supporting information from sources (in this case) such as British Cycling or Cervelo.

I believe it.
I found it very curious that no sprinters seem to be using it even after it was unveiled.
I really hope that British Cycling isn't locked into a contract that forces them to use them. I'd keep using the Super bikes from the last Olympics (Plan B), assuming that they aren't worn out by now. Or see about getting a last minute fleet of LOOKs or BTs (Plan C) that are "white labeled" (unbranded) and painted with Cervelo or the Union Jack logos.
I'm pretty sure that they could even buy some Dolans off the rack and have them as Plan D bikes.
When I heard "Cervelo" and "Sprint" in the same sentence, I chuckled. Same thing with the (now failed) Pinarello "sprint" bike.
I'm available for consulting for the British Team if needed

I heard they sent the bikes back to Cervelo for a redesign or at least a beefing-up for the sprinters.

Yes, photos of GB sprinters using the T5 and then follow up photos of them using the older GB superbikes are very telling. Sure Cervelo has experience with road bikes, but sprint bikes for the pinnacle of the game are a very different beast. One would assume that they needed to import some knowledge for that development, and if they didn't........

I find it asinine that they don't have a bike for their sprinters and let Cervelo (and Pinerello before that) sell them bikes.
For sprinting, aero don't mean jack sh*t if the bike rides like a wet noodle.
The human body makes up something like 90% of the drag in the system, the front wheel maybe 5%, so any aero gains of the frame are simply manipulating that other 5%.
If the chassis can't handle the force, then all of that gym training was for nought!!
Why work hard in the gym to make 2,400W for 5s when the frame can only handle 1,800W (max) before flexing?
I don't want to rip on Cervelo too much before knowing more. Right now, I do think it's fair to rip on Team GB management for not managing this situation. I hope we are wrong about all of this.

Love the CF tub shoes. I think there could be a more 'reliable' design there but really they only need to last a weekend (or less). I could see bont maybe doing a mainstream version like that.
Cervelo has finally revealed the T5. I got a 'peak' of it pieces of it a couple months back and was told not to breath a word of it, like it was some secret that they would be coming out with SOMETHING to replace the 8 year old T4 frame they had GB riding up until now. I mean they signed with the team that notoriously spends the most money possible...

The T5 (albeit a Taiwan built version with cheaper materials) will be available shortly after the games to meet the peak in track bike demands on Olympic years.
Although how slow that bike must be with the crank on right side!

and what do you mean by cheaper material?
Will their be two T5 models?
expensive material T5 and cheap material T5

I'm waiting for the next book to be published. The one that talks about the rise and fall of Team GB. They had a great system, not just a few talented riders. It could be that their competitive advantage was simply adopting new tech and using it properly and everyone else quickly followed suit. You can see the equipment that they are using. The angles are common knowledge. I'm sure that their training methodology is well known in those circles.

Grain of salt, but, the information wouldn't surprise me if it's true.

Team GB have a potential silver medal winner in Jason Kenny (as an Aussie, Glaetzer will get gold of course ). Truly though, a flexy bike under Kenny could be the difference between a medal or none, and if that ends up being the case, there will be a lot to answer for from Team GB and Cervelo, and those that struck the deal. Scary situation for all involved and I'll bet the sprinters aren't happy! That mind space could be a bad thing too!
I bet the UK sprinters will have a suitable UCI approved bikes to ride with only four weeks to go, and have been training on them.

Methinks it's his social media obligations to promote his sponsor's products. I'd imagine that that is part of the sponsorship deal.
Instragram has a rule against overt advertising of products. So, athletes and celebrities simply post photos of themselves using said products.
Don't get me wrong. This type of casual advertising really works.

One way to determine if Team GB is obligated to promote the bikes is to look at the social media accounts of other Team GB riders. If most are doing it, then there you have it.
