Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Some people I know who go through that much (or less) have quit riding. Not all of them, though.

I have heard that after 2 concussions it has been recommended that football players quit playing. Trying to cut down on CTE, I guess.

Thank you MoAlpha That was very good, and easy to understand for a non-sail'er.

Yea, but how many are going to give up their career over that? Not many, so they will just go unreported.

Valygirl had to quit racing crits and road races due to concussions. She then transitioned to hill climbs and TT's. It's not easy for a crit racer to transition to that, but she ended up being a state champion crit racer and a state TT champ.

Shes a super individual. When Lily brought the kids to the race, she was overwhelmed with Simon, and couldn’t really give Amelia any attention. This individual instantly swooped in and it was like she knew Amelia for years. We just met her that day. Super cool of her. Hope she heals fast and yes, stop hitting her head.

That is what has always happened in the past. Now they have "concussion protocols" to try and keep track of things. I'm sure there are plenty of unreported head knocks going on but they have spotters in the stands who are supposed to notice when a player gets wobbly.

BF member gstienb quit mass start races after getting crashed out by other racers enough times. I think he was a NJ state champ a couple times and then switched to TT's and hill climbs. Did some track, too, but I think he gave that up.

from this morning's (virtual) TT on "Triple Flat Loops". Was super low energy last night for some reason so I felt tentative about going hard today. Aimed for a reasonable target and ended up pushing the AP up 5 watts in the second half. I think I would have had 10+ more watts on a better day. Next time!

3/3 in the A's, 3/39 overall

Started listing guitars for sale this week. Like selling kids.... if I price them what I think they're worth I'll never sell em.

and of course that led to trying to play. Now my thumbs are pissed at me.

Yep. The last time, he got taken out after a race by some other guy turning in front of him, if I remember right.

I tried the just TT/Hillclimb crap after I broke my hip. It really sucked, and it wasn't my cup of tea. Mrs. LAJ told me to just go race.
