On my commute home last night I stopped to look for some new dress shoes. They were 50% off. Maybe I should carry more than one stretch cord.

Yes!! Thanks for that idea, I'll find canvas straps that match the ones on the rollup bags. One of my colleagues is a Londoner (of a certain age) and he's all misty-eyed over those waxed canvas panniers.

There used to be a bungee that had four or six hooks, and kind of resembled a spiderweb when you stretched it over your load. Anybody know what I'm talking about? Anyway, that would have been ideal for the load you have there.

Four rides on four bikes in three days. The weather has been just splendid.
Day 1 - Leisurely 20 mile ride to Classon Point in the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx with my brother, I on my U08 and he on his Fuji Royale.
We stopped by the Church of the Holy Cross where our parents were married.

Day 2 - 30 mile spin over the GWB into Alpine Park on the Fuji Ace.
Untitled by irishbx4th, on Flickr
Day 2 - 20 mile ride in the evening on the PX10.

Day 3 - 22 mile ride on the Cannondale Black Lightning. It just begs to go fast.

@musicdiver, nice!
I just rode my commute again. Took the Grandis. Nice ride but I broke a spoke nearing home this afternoon. Bummer.

I took the day off of work to get my brakes fixed. I dropped my car off in Elgin Il. I asked how long it was going to take? He told me about five hours. Perfect. I pulled my bike out of the car and rode a nice 46 mile ride out to Aurora and back with a couple of stops along the way. The weather was perfect and I beat six of my personal best segment times on Strava. The first two pictures are taken in downtown St Charles Il. The last was my lunch view in downtown Aurora Il.

^ Aurora, IL? That last pic looks like it could be somewhere in France, 100km upstream from Paris or something. Nice shots.

Yah, it is pretty nice. One of my favorite rides, as it gets to feeling really backcountry, with wildflowers in the foreground, and snow fields on the Boulders and Pioneers in the background. Pretty special. But you DO have to watch where you are going. It is a bit of a rough trail, esp. now that it has become more "discovered", which is not very discovered as compared to trails near Seattle when I mountain bike over there.

Unusual day for me. I set out from Oaks, PA in perfect weather (70's and 80's, dry, light SW winds, clear sky) to go check on the South Street bridge at the lower end of the Schuylkill River Trail. About half way there I noticed a actual penny farthing going the other way. Odd eh? A few minutes later I met two more guys on antique bikes: one on a Pederson (did not say what year) and the other on a 1896 Iver Johnson (actual wooden rims). I asked about them and learned that the Wheelmen were having their 50th Anniversary weekend near by.
50th Anniversary National Meet - The Wheelmen
They were riding the SRT - some just knocking around, some doing 50 miles, some doing 100. I noticed a large group in Fairmont Park and several others along the SRT as I headed south then back to Valley Forge. I think I saw 15 penny farthings through the day, some of them 3 or 4 times. Also saw other neat antique bikes. Along the MLK Blvd I rode for a bit with a gentleman who must have been at least 80 yrs old, doing the 50 mile loop. He was riding the light blue bicycle his father had bought in 1907. Yikes. I even saw a young lady, maybe 12 or 13 yrs old, riding her penny farthing. I talked to a couple of these folks: Front wheels run up to 56 inches in diameter. Most of them were originals still on the road, a few were repros. They all looked great tooling along in the sun. I was on my 'modern' safety bicycle (1980 Nishiki International) which was just chocked full of the latest technology: alloy rims, galvanized spokes, single sided rim brakes, 6 cog FW, slant parallelogram RD, cotterless crankset, Tange DB tubing, Suntour ratchet DT shifters. They must have looked at it and shook their heads. "Kids these days! Look at that. What has the world come to?"
As I was feeling a totally modern guy (and just did not want the ride to end) I ended up riding my age again. 66 1/2 miles this year, and the Nishiki ran flawlessly. Excellent machine and real comfortable with the Tange 2 tubes and the 27 x 28mm tires. A great day but when I reach 100 yrs old these 'ride your age' days may take a bit more planning.

I turned 44 yesterday. Due to my schedule, I wasn't able to get out for a ride yesterday, so I went for a belated birthday ride today. I did a ride similar to the ride we did with gugie last month, but tacked on a few miles here and there to get up to 44 miles. Turns out I did just a tick under 4400' of climbing too.

Yep. Nice pics. I see you have a good crop of free-range, all-natural, organic turkeys. We have quite a good crop around here too. But the scenery isn't as dramatic!

A beautiful morning ride closed with a thorough drenching before returning home. Stopped to put a plastic bag on the Brooks but left the Carradice to the elements.

Photobucket Officially Sux
Thanks, Jim. Ugh, that's a drag about the photos. I could see them on my end but I guess others can't. Photobucket updated their terms of service the other day, and now free accounts can longer link hosted photos to third party sites. Guessing that we're going to see a lot of speedometers around here. Hate the thought of having to update lots of past links.
I uploaded the latest ride photos to a Flicker account. Hopefully you can see them now.

The ridiculous, heavy-handed way they did this is bound to drive users away in droves. In other circumstances, this would be called Extortion. Of course, maybe this was their objective all along - get rid of all the "freeloaders" and concentrate on the paying accounts.
Well, whatever. Of course, there's a hack:
"For users who are affected by this, it is important to note that the images are not gone. They are still hosted on Photobucket, and you can actually load them right then and there by right-clicking on them and selecting "open image in new tab" or "open link in new tab" depending on the web browser that you are using. This opens the Photobucket website where the original image is displayed." - Martin Brinkman, "Ghacks.net"
Screw `em. I've deleted my account, as I was already using Imgur anyway. And if Imgur decides they need to charge something for this service, as long as it's reasonable, I may well pay it - as long as they ask nicely.

Quick ride down to Recycled Cyles for some consumables. Took the Davidson for its maiden ride of the season. Before I could, however, I had to tighten the headset, adjust the front brake and swap the squeak-inducing alloy seatpost head bolts for steel ones. Ended up getting a later start than I wanted, but that didn't negatively affect anything.
These were probably issues that came up during my last ride (probably last summer) and I didn't attend to them immediately and then completely forgot about them
