I would like to keep it original if possible, I do like they way they look. I have a bad feeling this is just the start and (don’t tell my wife) I’ll probably end up with one or two more so having a few spare parts is never a bad thing.

If memory serves me , that is different than the one on my ‘78. That crack seems to suggest overtightening of the clamping area , possibly a handlebar swap that was not correct size. There are a bunch of Raleigh and GB stems out there so locating one should not be too difficult. Try eBay or Craigslist.

I have a forged GB stem from a 78 Super Gand Prix. Similar to this one. It is 110mm long however (was 23-24" frame). @JFHenry yours for shipping if you want it.

That’s very generous and I would be happy to pay for any cost to get it here

Fond memories
Clearly the goal is to convince your daughter to ride again and take it home,
thereby giving you room for another bike!

The stem is cracked so the bars move around, no clue how they were set up before I got it.

Uh - oh. So the bike is not rideable. Since it is summertime, this constitutes an emergency.
These look like good options:
Raleigh Stem $36
Raleigh Stem $40

Thanks, working on it.

I do get to ride some. I am part of National Ski Patrol and we bike patrol at a bike park, but it’s not like going for a ride, it’s more like hanging on for dear life trying to get to the accident scene (I was never much of an off road type). My patrol bike is a Trex mountain bike with huge tires and it’s really weird to ride. I’m must be old.

The seat post was 180 degrees off, I was so busy with the stem and tires I didn’t notice.

Got tires, got a stem, lots of cleaning and derailer adjustments.

Ready for some bar tape, not super thrilled with the thick padded modern offerings. Any place to get the old style thin stuff?

Quite a lot of people here have used Neubaum's cotton tape, among many other options. Handlebar tape only lasts a year or two, depending on use, and Neubaum's is relatively cheap so I wouldn't hesitate to replace it.
Another classic era type is more of a plastic/vinyl and shiny look, called Benotto. It has a glossy or flashy look and costs a little more. But, in my opinion, neither is all that comfortable.
I prefer Zipp Service Course, or Lizard Skins tapes, which are very comfortable and easy to use, but are in the $30 - $50 range.

I found some stuff at the local shop, it looks halfway decent and it changes easy. Bike is ready to ride as soon as it stops raining here.
