Country road cycling day in Yamaguchi Japan

November 7th was like a spring weather day. Basically this is what I bring with me on a 5 hour Sunday ride. Didn't really get to take but 3 pictures. Don't bring the headphones with you if you mount your telephone/camera on your bike. You end up not taking many picture.
This is in Yamaguchi , Japan

a country road going toward a city called Hagi

got to have chips and water

an apple pie gives me the sweets that I need for a lengthy ride on a Sunday

More picks will be delightful. Japan is a favorite place of mine. The people are lovely, and the cities are clean and orderly. Never had the option to see the countryside, but have taken many virtual bike tours of the countryside and realize what I missed when there.

You do carry the TEN ESSENTIALS when biking! In case you don't know "ten essentials" are what hikers are suppose to have when out to be prepared for emergencies. I can get behind the apple pie.

You had to start up the "what's the right pastry" debate, didn't you?

Just kidding, apple is perfect, cherry would be too messy.

Well, chocolate creme pie might be nice. But today I settled for cannoli.

I probably should have biked there but the ten minute downpour once each hour makes me reconsider that thought!

Well, hiking - a map and compass.

But you've got most of the bases covered. What do you do for "self protection." I have read that Japan is generally quite safe, especially compared with the US.

Kind of reminds me of that NHK show Cycling Around Japan. It shows here on the local PBS station.

Since I ride out in the countryside on roads that are traffic maybe 3 cars per hour. Actually more motorcycles then cars during the summer.
But I carry a folding fishing knife in my tool pouch . I believe it is legal.

I'll see if I can upload some pictures now.
Since I've traveled the route I am going many times before, I decide to start off by train. I packed my bag and camping and loaded it on the train.
I think it was 6 am in the morning. We are allowed to put our bikes on the train if it is put into a bike bag.

This is my start on April 4th in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

I'm usually good for 90 to 110 km a day. Depends on how hot, wind, rain, mountains, hills and traffic.
I started out a cross country tour of Japan starting in April of 2021. I'll be posting pictures of my tour and explain the troubles and joy that I had.
Hopefully next year I'll do some more cross country touring maybe starting in April. I did get to Okinawa, but cycling in August is really way too hot and camping, well, its even hotter.

Here's another picture.

This is my bike and camping gear on the train. I'm on my way to Shimane Prefecture.
Shimane is on the coast of the Sea of Japan.
