Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I ended up riding ITG today, what with the rain early and the wind later. Only about 30 "miles", but the coasting on Zwift sucks - if you set the Trainer Difficulty at 100%, a 6% climb feels like a 6% climb. But a 6% descent feels like a 3% descent. So, while IRL if you'd just done a couple minutes of 6% climbing, you might coast down the other side, reaching > 30 mph without pedaling. On Zwift, the descent is 3%, so you might hit about 20 mph. Yeah, I COULD coast down the hills, but I hate watching my "speed" go down! Anyhow, so no coasting.

Oh, and I'm now Level 48. It took me 3 years to crawl from level 1 to level 24, but now I hit a new level about every week.

So our “Usual” Sunday ride is 30 miles starts at 8:30AM. I ride to/from the start to end up closer to 45 miles.

It was very cold overnight and rained heavily yesterday (no Saturday ride), so several of my friends wanted to do a longer ride with a later start (9:30). I had a work training commitment so I could not join the later ride. My one friend who had agreed to do the early start had to bail as his wife had a shoulder injury and he had to take her to urgent care. Since the Sunday ride is officially a “show and go” ride I was still hoping to have some company. I rode to the start but sadly no one was there. I still did the full ride solo. There were several icy patches on the roads, and I had to dismount/walk a few times.

It was still a fine ride, but would have been better with some company.

TT bike work in the garage, light endurance. Did one of the "Big Spin" rides, and got the helmet again.

First IRL TTT practice on Wednesday next week - looking fwd to it

I like to be alone with my thoughts and solo rides are perfect for that.

March is characteristically unpredictable around these parts. We got 6 although they only predicted 2 to 3.

I agree. Other than the highlighted exemplary institution, most of his resume is fair at best.
