Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had the same experience, and I'm on the west coast! They must have some deal made with customs? haha

Small packages from Merlin arrives fast but if you buy a wheelset or a bike you may wait for 2-3 weeks.

as an experiment, i once mailed a small package via USPS to myself. it took three days. then mailed the same package to myself via UPS (comparable cost). two days. i also tested my "billpay" service from my online retirement brokerage account. i sent a check to myself in the amount of a dollar. seven days.

I ordered a groupset from them and had the same experience. Crazy. Wiggle was equally fast with a set of handlebars. I'd order from any of those UK sites before messing with Jenson even though I could feasibly drive to Jenson if I wanted to.

I ordered a Fulcrum Racing 3 wheelset on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and received them on Monday night. From the UK, that's pretty impressive.

I ordered an Ultegra groupset from them, it arrived promptly by UPS and I was not charged any fees.

It's DHL who are notorious for slapping on fees, not UPS I believe.

So merlin took 4 days to get the groupset shipped to me (US), but tires and tubes from ribble have still not arrived. Its been about 2 weeks now. I am not worried yet, but its getting close. Also, have not gotten any duty fees from merlin

I ordered a seatpost from Merlin on "Cyber Monday" (i.e. Nov 30th) and so far 2 weeks later it's not showed up yet, despite being mailed on Dec 1st according to them. My guess is that the mail is going slow due to the "holiday season". As the item I ordered was not urgent, I'm not too bothered. Ironically I will be in the UK next week though, so I probably should have just got them to send it to my Mum's house.

I would have to go back and check but I thought their email contained a way to track the package.

Not on smaller stuff. They send it airmail with no tracking.

I have had good results with Ribble on my orders there, some where in the unusually quick realm, as said about the Merlin shipping on that groupset. No duty has been charged on any of their orders, to date.

BTW, OP, nice choice on the groupset choice.

Bill

Chain Reaction has been consistently slow to Atlanta. 9 business days is typical. The last order took close to three weeks.

Dura Ace would have been even faster because it's lighter...

Yes, but with carbon content at high altitude during plane transport, you do risk assplosion occuring in transit.

Just ordered a groupset from Ribble last week. Took 4 days and it was delivered by the mailman. Merlin has been just as quick in the past. No duty fee's from either one.

Not me my friend... not me. Was this because I chose to be cheap and not pay the $5 ground shipping? 11 days is a long wait...

I already sold my left kidney for a new cervelo for the wife. Plus it was the perfect time to commemorate the new star wars movie. #R2Di2

The tires and tubes showed up last night. It took me a better part of 30 minutes to get the new tire onto the rim. I really suck at changing tires.

I think all of these super fast ordered on Friday arrived on Monday are for items over $200. If you order under $200 most places ship free via Royal Mail.

My wheels from Merlin have been over a week in shipping and not even arrived the U.S. as yet. It currently says

Jan 13 2016
06:07 AM
Parcel sent to country of destination

But they are cheap!
