Yes, I was under the same impression, that Peter Reich held rights to the frame. I'd also read somewhere that the patent had expired, but then it'd be nice to call a Swift a Swift even if a rose is a rose by any other name.

Anyway, I'm thrilled that Pinigis has responded so positively to this idea of resurrecting the Swift. I really think that something extra special could come of it if it turns out to be feasible.

I quite like the way the Swift folds. It's true that it isn't a super compact package like a Brompton when folded, but for my own purposes it works and it takes seconds to get it into and out of the folded state. I've easily gotten it into the back of many very small tightly packed cars and I even managed to get it completely inside the teeny luggage space on a TGV train in France on one occasion. Also, it sometimes fits in places where more conventional hinged 20" bikes would struggle to snuggle in because it's folded package has a much skinnier folded footprint than something that doubles over on itself. Finally, the brake and derailleur cables never get stretched when folding and unfolding, which is a real plus in its favour

I think the emphasis on selling such a bike should be that it folds easily and small enough for travel and commuting, but offers great adaptability and outstanding rideability, edging towards high performance rather than pure utility (though it's got more than decent utility as well).

don' t have the lotus. but great looking bike. i am looking to replace my campy as i'm not happy with it. how much does the falcon weight ? disc brakes intrigue me. i have drum brake on my very old dahon da with no front brake. and its more enjoyable to ride than the campy. thanks for your reply and have a wonderful day.

Ok, I corresponded with Peter Reich today and he is "intrigued" by the idea of resurrecting the Swift. I gave him some details of what I envision, so we will see how he responds. Overall, I think that this is going to work.

NIce! Hope your correspondence with Peter leads to a fruitful collaboration between you guys. Please keep us folding bike aficionados on bike forums posted if things develop further. I think there's great potential in the Swift as a product. For me it was an affordable way to have a mid-life crisis. No sports car needed, just a small bike that goes anywhere and that always eggs me on to climb higher and pedal faster. Good luck

Please, make it have a decently high weight limit. Some bikes have a 300lb weight limit. I own an ebike that can handle 300lbs (Qualisports Dolphin).

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I had some questions for Pinigis that may be of interest to others as well.

You mentioned in another thread that the Origami Bull frame is designed for 350 lbs, but the seat post itself only accomodates 310 lbs. Does the 260 pound limit listed for the Origami Lotus refer to its seat post, or is that also its max loaded frame capacity? If not, what is the max frame load for the Lotus?

Echoing others in the thread, have you given additional thought to an offering with an IGH?

Lastly, does the Bull have an option for the front luggage nose?

The 260 for the Lotus is both the frame and seat post.

We offered an IGH in the past, but it wasn't a financial success. The added weight and cost of an IGH is always a deterrent.

We don't have a luggage block mount on the Bull currently, but I can add one for the next production run.

Yes, it will have a carrier block on the front (see photo).
We have used hydraulic disc brakes on two of our models in the past, and I really like them. They do weigh a little more because the hubs and calipers have some bulk to them. But, given the responsiveness and stopping ability, its a reasonable tradeoff. Once the calipers are set up, there is really no maintenance until you wear out the pads and have to change them. They are generally lower in maintenance than Vee brakes.
