route from Portland to Bend

I've done a little searching at bikely and other bike mapping sites but haven't found anything... Does anyone know of a good route from Portland to Bend?

The routes are limited. 26 over mount hood, 22 up past detroit lake or out of eugene over mckinzie pass if it is open. Mckinzie pass is the only one I have been on which takes you to sisters and easily to bend from there. 26 and 22 are not very bike friendly in spots but I have seen bikes on both. Good luck!

I have never done it but a friend told me about going from Portland to Detroit lake via backroads than you have to do the Santiam pass and stay on 22 but at list is mostly downhill.
From Sister you might find other roads not as busy.
Good luck and let us know.

".... During the bridge replacement project, which will cost about $800,000, no vehicle or bicycle traffic will be allowed on the west side of the McKenzie Pass for safety reasons. Officials hope to open the west side of the highway for traffic by Sept. 1....."

Shame about SR-242

It's a shame about SR-242; it's really the way I would have chosen. The quoted article is about two months old, so you could check with ODOT and find out what the current status is.

Like others have said, the trick is to decide which mountain pass you're going to go over. I don't like US-26 too much. US-20 has decent shoulders, even if it is quite busy.
