My end goal is to have fun!
Right now I have many ways to do so.
1, Pro-tour, setup to ride just about anywhere, can put on fenders for long wet rides.
2. Gazelle Primer, big market truck, all the baskets and bags.
3, Giant Revel, just a 3x10 MTB.
4, Bridgestone Prestino, 2 speed SRAM Automatix with big 28" cruiser wheels.
5, no name 29r BMX single speed coaster brake fun.
6, Zunow, needs a new top tube, to be built as a go fast road bike.
To be built
1, a Witcomb, undergone gugieficazion for racks, stud mounted center pull Mafac brakes, to be built as a 650b wanderlust all road bike with Dura-ace
2, a Geoffrey Butler, ??? Possibility to be built with a real nice Shimano arabesque group.
3, a Raleigh Gran Sport, undergone gugieficazion for stud mounted center pull Mafac brakes, to be a wood fendered market bike.
4, 83 Raleigh RRA, ??? Just ride it as it is all original.

There's often been something I'm chasing- I usually think I have an idea of what it is... Whether it's trying out and comparing different touring bikes, or trying out and comparing different components... I think my idea is now to find what I like the most out of all that stuff and find what combines and checks the most boxes. I think I've wanted a bike that has the features and ride of my 620, but lighter and slightly less long... kinda combining the 730 with the 620. I think.
Sometimes I think it's probably much more fun being unencumbered by the comparisons- getting a bike and just riding.

It's a Cyclones jersey, purchased... in the early 2000's??
In fact, it was purchased from from the student club, and I had to pay membership dues to be able to buy it. Pretty cool jersey.
and for anyone not familiar with the term Cyclones, this is the mascot(?) of Iowa State University. Or "Cy the Cardinal" is the mascot, and the Cyclone is just the logo? It's very confusing. I attended ISU back in the early 80's, when Michael's Cyclery was still around and a sponsor of a very capable racing team/organization.
I still have a sweatshirt from Michael's...

A few winters ago, I took a framebuilding class with a local builder who went to ISU and his first job out of college was building bikes at Michael's Cyclery(and then eventually at a shop in Grinnell of all places back then).
Neat history- and great hoodie.

I fully intended to start the great purge this year of all of my collections. I'm getting to the point where toys and projects from 30 years ago are in the way of what I want to do for the next and last 30 year's. Basically I'm giving my self until 2030, when my kid graduate's from high school, to prioritize and clear out the pile. Specific to bikes, the idea of setting the limit to an even dozen is uncomfortable in all the right places.....

My end game in the World of Bicycling
My story of adult riding goes back to '85.
"Collecting" started in '87, when a friend was divorcing and dropped 2 bikes on me.
Got up to about 10 mostly mid-level bikes with different tubesets. Enjoyed the differences.
I sold off all but 1 vintage about 10 years ago, but didn't die. Vintage bikes = my biggest hobby.
So when rebuilding the vintage bike hobby, I agreed with my wife = Only one from each major cycling EU country, with an allowance for Italy, and the Daimler exception clause.
Now stands with some of the best from A - Z = Austro Daimler to Zeus.
Still looking for a 59cm high end Monark, Favorit, French upgrade over the Follis - but in a Happy Place.
I own them because I like to ride them and some wrenching/upgrades are always in progress or under consideration.
The only game is to ride for smiles.

I know someone who built an airplane in his basement. From the start he had a plan to get it out, but that plan required opening a hole in one wall of the basement. His story actually got local news coverage.
I would not have to resort to such extreme measures to construct a kayak or canoe. After the patio under the back deck gets paved, I'll have a 12 x 20 outdoor project space that has some shelter (all good as long as this doesn't become a long-term home of a construction site.
