Is it okay just to ride with a T shirt

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is it okay just to ride with a T shirt

Just curious is it okay just to ride with a t-shirt and proper shorts , you see I am not a fan of the tight fit riding jersey I find it realy uncomfortable to the point I just want to rip the dam thing off mid ride . So I ride with a Under Armour t-shirt and it seems that I have broken some riding rule in my area from all the nasty looks I get

So how many of you feel the way I do and ride with a t-shirt and not a tight fitting riding jersey .

Here is the thing, unless you are a sponsored pro, who really cares what you wear when you exercise...if you are uncomfortable in a jersey, wear what feels good to get the necessary exercise in. In the end, it is all about your enjoyment anyways.

How old are you? And how are the nasty looks affecting the more important things in your life?

Lol

No, ride in whatever you want. I've seen people ride in just bibs. I know someone who rides with an underarmour shirt and cycling shorts. Just don't wear a cotton shirt when you're sweating. It get's soaked and then it doesn't do well at wicking sweat.

Might get teased by other cyclists, but honestly no one really cares. Wear whatever is comfortable and useful for what you need.

I see folks riding road bikes in all kinds of apparel - cotton t-shirts, polos, racing jerseys, baggy shorts, etc... The main thing is that they are out riding.

Ok... I must confess. I don't even own a cycling jersey. Need to get a couple since I DO need the pockets but just haven't gotten around to buying one over the years.

You question/comment is similar to a person who swims for exercise refusing to wear speedos because he's embarrassed/doesn't like the way they fit/ they have a gut/ ...

Basically your an amateur who does this to stay fit and no one cares what you wear nor will the advantage of wearing lycra make any difference.

If you haven't used one over the years, then you don't need one at all. Keep on ridin'!

I wear cycling shorts because its comfortable and I wear a dry wicking type T-shirt...because it is comfortable. When I see a Stanley Jenkins wearing a saxo bank kit I can't help but wonder who he thinks he is fooling. So I decide to ride over to him and make fun of him....but I can't catch up and he just disappears over the horizon.

OP, absolutely not! Come one, at least have a sense of common decency and wear some shorts, or knickers, or even a skirt. Something!
