SRAM Rival to Red: Would I notice?
My "search" is wonky right now so sorry if this has been covered. I have 2011 Rival on my Cervelo RS, with an Ultegra compact crankset. It's good except that there is a little chain rubbing in the smallest 2-3 sprockets and the largest 2, when cross-chaining. And not every shift is perfect. I'm wondering if changing to red shifters and/or derailleurs would come with noticeable improvements. I care nothing about the weight savings–I could lose much more than that by dieting.

Weight savings mainly (your shifters will never go on a french fry binge), a big price tag, and questionable front shifting.

Maybe your FD limit screws are set too close together? I can't imagine that there's different spacing between chainrings for ultegra or rival/red so I'll just eliminate that train of thought.
I'm not familiar with 2011 rival but does it have trim for either of the chainrings? My vintage 2010 Red shifters have trim on the large chainring only but I never had to use it - I only got a little rub when in small/small and silence when I occasionally did big/big. I have the new Yaw FD and that has eliminated any cross chaining noise.
You can use the new Yaw FD with your current shifters but if you upgrade to the new Red shifters you'd need to update your cranks & FD as well. There's no trim setting on the new shifters.
I'd still look into tweaking your current set up before throwing money at it.

Perhaps true with the Red Ti caged FD. Steel cage Red FD will be no different than Rival or Force. New Red YAW FD will be somewhat superior. Not earth-shattering though.
RD: no diff. Shifters: only less free travel of the paddle before it engages (zero loss). Not that important as far as I'm concerned.

I doubt you would notice any difference other than appearance. Both are noisy and rough.
Red is lighter, but I doubt that you would notice the difference when riding.

My old bike has 2010 Rival, and my new bike has New Red with the yaw front derailleur. Front shifting is slightly improved with new red. Rear shifting is slightly faster due to the zero loss.
Both work good.

No reason the Rival can't be optimized and most of the issues fixed. It's damn good stuff.

To put it into perspective, I went from 2012 Force to 2013 Force. The addition of Zero Loss made it feel like a completely different groupset.
Will you notice going from 2011 Rival to 2013 Red? Not even a question. Absolutely.

i have force, its the in between grouppo, it's light but not as expensive as red. My bike came with force though so in a few years when i'm ready to financially upgrade, i'll get red

I find shifting performance usually a setup or maintenance issue regardless of whether it was Red or Rival.

with the price of the current Red being EQUAL to Di2 then there's no reason to go Red unless you're really a SRAM fanboy.

Why do all of the top of the line grupos look so ugly? SRAM Red is ugly. Shimano Dura Ace is ugly. None of these cranksets would look good on a beautiful steel frame IMO, like Cielo/Co-Motion. Seems like these are designed primarily for carbon bikes.
The Campy Records look nice, not as space-age looking. The Athenas look amazing on steel frames
