Teslas have a better appearance, but still nothing close to earth shattering, and twenty years later they have become luxury/pseudo luxury cars of choice. And it is not because 6 figure executives are conscious about fossil fuels.

The Dura Ace 7803 was the signal of the demise. A great crank that should have been embraced by triple road enthusiasts seeking a high end option. My regret was not being interested in triples when they were being sold at blow out prices.

F*** DuraAce triple cranks!! My regret was not buying more Tesla shares 5 years ago!

Yeah, I think there were even multiple chainring bikes for a while before front derailleurs… the chain was just shifted between rings by hand, or whatever.

Fine, whatever. Not like this thread is of any ultimate significance. It's @rydabent's world, we're just living in it.

You are not a manufacturer, nor do you represent one .... and you are the only person making that claim.

OK, at 23 pages and going strong (now part of my entertainment regarding this thread is guessing how long it will go), it is now time for me to make a post just to say I'm here. I mean, it's almost like I really don't belong to BF in a complete way unless I do. You all get it, right?

I'll do my best.

I have a Surly Disc Trucker. It has a 3x9 on it. I ride it exclusively now. I live in a very hilly area. Everything is up and down. There are some very challenging hills. I would like to upgrade to a bike that is better suited for very rough pavement and dirt/gravel roads, but the pandemic pretty much shut me out. I'm also not sure of what trade offs I would want to make when I do change bikes and type of drive train. I don't have to worry about it right now because components are still not really available (for what I want) and I plan on building up a bike from a frameset. OK, let's see now...is there anything else I should say....um....I guess, well.....it just doesn't make any sense.

Was that all right? Can I stay?

This thread needs a slogan to rally around and unite us.

Due to the somewhat conspiratorial undertones of manufacturers scheming to push cyclists into setups that are merely self serving for the manufacturers, I propose…

Where We Go 1x We Go 2x/3x

Just in case anyone is wondering, I’m not involved in any conspiracy stuff.

I didn’t ride my bike to Dallas to see JFK, and was basically making fun of the whole thing. For anyone who is into that stuff, don’t contact me as I will only laugh at you.

Believe what you want.

But it does sound a lot like a kid telling his/her parents that everyone is going to the party, and then they name 2 or 3 friends.

I just found the other thread. The funniest part is the people who thought it was a great idea! I just thought it was some ridiculous experimental contraption - which is not that unusual in cycling e.g. L-shaped cranks.
