Looking for a good biking app. Something to keep up with daily progress and get a monthly
Report if I want. Speed, distance etc. I downloaded runtastic which showed everything I wanted
But I started with their free app, then when to their pro apps which I paid for, now I have to get
The Gold membership to continue to get the history which is a monthly fee. I done. I just wish
All these organizations would just charge you $100 to join instead of $25.00 and not call you constantly for more money. Just me letting a little steam off . Lol.

I use all the free ad based versions. Mapmyride, RidewithGPS, Strava, I've never seen any that I've tried that you have to pay for it to keep your history. I currently use both Mapmyride and RidewithGPS as I can't figure out which one I like better.

I use Runkeeper, but if I had to start over again, I'd probably start with "MapMyRide". I'm sticking with runkeeper because of the 5 years of data I already have there.

I use mapmyride's free service and it does a good job with the basic information. I've considered using the paid membership to gain the live tracking feature which would be nice in case of an emergency.

I use Map My Ride Plus, which I got on sale for 99 cents. I was told it could suggest routes, but it seems to suggest workout routes rather than "Take this and that to get to Grocery Store X". Also, it takes some time to get started. I'd have my bike out, ready to ride, and be stuck waiting for the app to start up before I could hit the Start Workout button.

Still, it's a nice convenience to get some idea of what kind of workout I got from riding my bike (miles, calories burned, etc.). No idea how accurate it is. I heard about Strava too, but it apparently can't map your ride while you ride.

Which mobile OS are you using? If Android, My Tracks (by Google) is a fairly decent bit of freeware. It may not have all the bells and whistles as some other apps/services, but you aren't constantly bombarded by upgrade requests or third party ads.

IIRC, My Tracks provided speed (max/current/average), time (moving/total), elevation, distance, calories burned (guesstimate at best), and HR info. If cadence matters to you, though, this ain't the app for you.

+1 for MMR. and I feel that good software that I use daily is worth $2.50 a month. even vultures gotta eat.

For iPhone, Cyclemeter. Free app, but you'll want all the extra features for $5/yr. It's worth it in my opinion.

I use ride-with-gps. I am not saying it is the best, it is just the one I tend to use. I really wanted to use the Garmin site, it seems that it should integrate with my Garmin device best; but in truth it is the hardest to use. For all intents and purposes it doesn't work [yes, there are workarounds; but they are a nuisance].

I use Map My Ride free version too. Good info, records personal bests, fun awards and comparisons to other riders riding the same route, local routes and rides others have taken. It is easy to use, even for a luddite like me.

Cyclemeter for iPhones is my recommendation. "Elite" is worth the money.

I started with MapMyRide but I like Cyclemeter better (iPhone for both). Cyclemeter starts up faster and I like the data that I get from it. The mapping is nice. I am using the free version.

I might give Cyclemeter a shot. I like MapMyRide's auto-mapping (using Google Maps) feature but am intrigued by Cyclemeter's auto-stop detection and ability to measure cadence with iPhone 5S (which I have). I'm not into racing but do enjoy seeing how far I rode, how long it took, and what kind of climbs I had to deal with. Can it figure out hill grade? Not a showstopper if it can't

It gives you ascent and descent. Not hill grade specifically.

Try the Glympse app. It's a better way of sending out your location. Of course, if you want to share your cycling metrics, route, and all that, adding the paid service might just be easier.

I use Wahoo Fitness, and then I share the info to Strava (my friends use that one) and mapmyride (I paid a year subscription and has this 3D map replay of your workout that is really good).

The main reasons why I like Wahoo better are:

It's the most customizable app available, it can measure virtually everything.
It speaks to other devices without having to be an engineer, currently I have it synced to a Polar H7 HRM, a Casio STB-100 watch and a Jarv Bluetooth CSC sensor. In almost two years it only crashed once and I was running all three apps at once. I've since stopped doing that and during my rides I only have Wahoo on, the app works flawlessly.
It shares to any other app or format you may need/want, even a pdf.
It's free with no ads.

Check it out, you wont be disappointed.

ditto for mapmyride free version.
accurate and gives me all the info i need. My son in NY is on my friend list so we get each others info as soon as it's recorded.
great app.
down side....is a bit power intensive, and I did have to uninstall and reinstall it once because it was giving bizarre readings e.g. 144 mph.
but i have the software on my pc, so all data was still on record.
