New frame Veneto Altec 2, another project after the Daccordi incident

Good Afternoon
On one of my projects bad luck happened due a poorly machined headset (a chris king no thread headset) , when by my bike tech wanted to install it didn't go smoothly as opposed to the other headsets (two campagnolo record threaded headsets , one stronglight jdx94 threaded headset) he installed on the other bikes without problems, the chris king caused a small crack in the direction / heaset tube. The daccordi will be repaired but told me that I should avoid chris king as headset, I will buy later a campy chorus headset. Nevertheless until I haven't seen the repair being done , I decided to go for a spare frame in case of . I stumbled on a very nice veneto from the seller who sold me the coppi back then that is very close to my daccordi fly regarding quality but with a more colorful paint. The finish of the welds beat any colnago dream or bianchi mega pro or cannondale caad 8-10. It has a campy chorus head set, masi carbon fork and look stem. It will be another dura ace 7800 equipped bike.

I don't think the Chris King headset was the cause, it was the installer. Jus what broke, why, and how is that going to be fixed?

The installer has assembled and built several bike projects for me including my last three mountain bikes in 2016 always without any problems, has a bike shop since 25 years and works on my 5 others road bike and my 2 other MTB projects without any problems, he also built the three wheel sets for my MTBs back in 2016 and also built the wheelset for my giant tourer back in 2014. He has a large clientèle and is well known in my area.A chris king set can be faulty or badly machined (I bought mine in second hand not new). I bought three other new old stock headsets including two campy record threaded headsets and a stronglight jdx 94 threaded headset that he installed on my three other road bike projects without any probs. There was a small crack in head tube developping when he tried to install it, the crack will be repaired thanks a framebuilder that he knows well and I have plan to buy a campy chorus threadless headset for it once repaired. The chris king headset was probably sold as an 1 inch ISO size and the 1 inch headtube which is on the frame is an italian size which may explain the incompatibility between headeset and tube causing the crack.

On the other hand as nice as they are the Italian alu frames from the era tend to develop cracks with or without Chris King. Retroactively we'll never know if the cause is a front-end hit, a bad headset, bad batch of tubing, bad batch of manufacturing or a clumsy mechanic (not implying yours is one) but there are almost as many bikes/frames out there for sale with cracks as without (side note: for the luck of parts scavengers who get everything for less money than what the wheels cost thanks to sellers who don't want or cant disassemble a bike to see in parts).

True I have already a pair of daccordi decals laying around, I will take photo of the frame repair once I visit my bike tech. Thread of my daccordi fly you will note that on the pictures there was not a single crack. The small crack appeared on the left side of the head tube after the not sucessful installation if the chris king threaless headset. The frame never got involved in an accident. I never had bad luck with any frame I bought in second whether it be aluminium or steel, this is the first time it ever happened.

Cup size different than required and when pressed, cracked the head tube I guess. Ouch.

was the head tube reamed before installation...?

Yes it was but I have seen the crack which was minor but still, I will have the frame repaired and I will have a proper headset fitted to it.

Received the frame today , applied a new altec 2 sticker to it while the original one was not in good shape and installed the bar. The finish of the welds is a very close match to my daccordi
