Cycling out of London Heathrow??

Starting on this year's tour plans and we are thinking bof flying to London. Then head south to Poole to catch a ferry.
Wondering if anyone here has and somewhat current info about riding out of the airport to points south?
I have also post at Crazy Guy.
Thanks!

Thank you very much for that Ray, that's a great little resource! Saved it as that could be very useful one day.
Cheers

That would have been very useful years ago when I put my Bike Friday together at the terminal and started down the road. Immediately came to a very scary underpass and raced through to get out as fast as possible. Then saw a sign after exiting that bikes weren't allowed through the tunnel.

If you go to this page, and scroll to right near the bottom, there's a section called "Cycling to Heathrow -- 2012". It is 5 years old, but it might help.

It starts with a list of links (which I haven't checked recently, sorry), and then several paragraphs of comments from what we experienced or heard.

I cycled north FROM Poole in July of 2016 after taking the ferry from Cherbourg, France. Might be useful to know there is a fenced-in 24 hour parking area immediately adjacent to the ferry landing where one can easily pitch a tent. Hot showers and modern restrooms on site. My particular ferry landed at 10pm so this secure adjacent camping spot on arrival was a most welcome surprise.

There is a bicycle trail running north a fair distance out of Poole, a converted railway bed. Other than that, if ya ain't rode England before many of the roads can be holy terrors to ride; a way-overloaded infrastructure and the roads hemmed in right up to the fog stripe by stone walls or dense hedges.

I expect you can get much cogent advice from the referenced forums but were I flying into Heathrow with a bicycle, I'd seriously look into the prospects of taking the bike, still boxed if necessary, on the Underground and/or a train or bus to some more rural area to commence riding.
