Cinelli made Centurion rare beasty, what's she worth?
Here's one for the Cinelli fans, ditto those Centurion fanboys who are tired of Japanese made Centys; a Centurelli . Is it a CInelli, well, yes. Is it a Centurion, well, yes.
Co-designed by Centurion and CInelli, and made in a Cinelli subsidiary factory near Milan in 1983-84, same place that some of the SuperCorsas were made. Rides like a dream, and was the precursor of the 50 or so Equipe CInelli/Centurion models made in 1985. All CInelli and Campy parts, SL Colombus tubing (I have a replacement decal for the worn one). Comes with Aheadset shown. Last pic shows it built up for reference.
The Bikeology catalog shows the same frame for sale in 1983.
Geometery:
Stamped a size 58, but is really a 56.5 cm top tube and seatpost CC.

Very cool! I don't know why a Centurion enthusiast wouldn't want it to round out a collection. Might get $300 or close to it if you pay shipping.

I wouldn't expect to get Cinelli money for it (there not REALLY Cinellis), but it should bring a little more than the previously quoted $300.

One needs to put on a legal hat to read that advert carefully, it is not stated factually where the frame is made.

While likely great function wise the ugly crank set Alex wheels do hurt the look of this great bike imho

I suspect, but don't know, that I am the 3rd-4th most 'informed' person about these frames (Alan, Robbie, old Cinelli staff, me??) , as I am both obsessed and have done hours of internet searches. However, I've only seen one for sale, eBay, $650 asking price then it sold, but not sure what price.

Centurion did market a lot of interesting top end frames in the 80's many of which had basically double digit production numbers and were hand built be various makers.

the problem with these is that despite being fairly rare, having the Cinelli logo all over them, and having a cool back story, buyers who want a Cinelli will buy a Cinelli. from what I read, that's also how consumers felt back when this bike was introduced by Centurion, and that's why it was not successful. Additionally, Cinelli sold their lugs and BB shells to lots of third-party manufacturers, so a non-Cinelli bike with Cinelli engravings is also not a rarity. I'd put the value in line with other high-end production Japanese steel frames of that era but nowhere near a Cinelli of the same quality & vintage.

Have owned and enjoyed 80’s Cinelli’s but not enough to keep one permanently.
There have been many, many Centurions in the stable. All nice riders,some have been on epic events.
None as rare as this, however.

I like my Equippe version. If I found a Project frameset like this in my size, I would feel compelled to own it. Sounds like this one is going to a great home.

Last one of this model (and only one) I saw sold was asking $675, and it got taken off eBay and privately sold I believe. I'd rather an enthusiast own it, rather than someone hacking it to a single speed.
