Check out my new ride!

Here's a rare bird. This one showed up on the bay and normally I'm only interested in track bikes but...I took one look at this and I knew it was special. Everything about it appeals to me. It's my size, I like the colors, the fast-back stays, the simple lugs and the flat fork crown (just like my track bikes
The frame was built in 2005 by Nic Schmidt who worked for Strong Frames in Bozeman. I don't know if Nic is still building but I can not find anything about him or Capital bikes online. I appreciate any information and of course your comments! Tom

Thanks! Doing my research - I just read in Cycling Weekly that the Dura Ace 7800 was, according to them, the best performing groupset of the pre-carbon, pre-Di2 era and they had this to say too: "The 7800 chainset with its aero chainring was a work of art, a sculpture in forged aluminium that looked like a tensed metal muscle" Not bad for a guy who normally rides fixed gear!

Some details from the listing:

"Columbus Zona steel with Columbus Niva fork, Saba Short Point lugs, Sachs fork crown, H. James rear dropouts and Shimano fork dropouts."

I can find nothing about Capital bikes online - only Capitol. I will reach out on framebuilders forum - thanks for the suggestion!

The card suits on the inside of the fork ring a bell. I was thinking Ciocc (Pelizolli) or Paletti, but I couldn't find anything to back that up. I did find this image of a Saba fork with the suit detail:

Although yours doesn't have the corresponding Saba cartouche on the fork crown.

Edit: Forget that, apparently Kirk Pacenti produces (produced?) fork crowns with the suits incorporated.

That is so interesting - thanks for posting those pics P!N20. It's amazing how lugs are made by one outfit and can appear on different frames from different builders over the years. What a cool detail too - the full suit!

Does 'Sachs fork crown' refer to Richard Sachs? I thought I read that he was supplying lugs to frame builders since good ones were becoming scarce.

That is the pure definition of bike porn. So lovely to look at. Can only imagine what it must feel like to ride. Great find!

did a little searching....I was curious

Strong Bicycles is still in business, but winding down taking last orders....... I hope Dave Kirk doesn't get any ideas from this

I found a 2018 reference to Nic Schmidt working for Crumpton Cycles, and having Capitol on the side... only capitol frames I can find is in kentucky run by a Peter Mitchell
