Today I finally bit the bullet and got splash guards on my road bike for commuting. I had been holding out because I dont think it looks good on the bike. but Living in Holland and winter being a quite wet season I just couldnt do it. I have two other bikes fully fendered and weather proof, but they are heavy and slow for my 54 kilometer round trip commute.

and also decided to remove the front derailleur and big ring since I really never change to the big ring.

I'm familiar with the N360, but I didn't know about the Nuvinci Harmony until you mentioned automatic shifting. Had to look it up. What kind of battery are you using to power it and how frequently do you think you will need to charge the battery?

I'm not actually using the Harmony automatic shifting system in its stock configuration.

I helped develop a system that interfaces with the N360 using a modified version of their shift hub interface which talks to a new controls system (which I interface with using my Droid phone). It uses a small battery that is continuously recharged by a front hub dynamo so I never have to plug it in. It's pretty neat and I'll PM you some more info once I hit the 50 post threshhold.

Great looking bike. Like how the U Lock hides under the rack in the back too.

bconneraz - I was curious about the bar end shifters... what brand are they? how many gears does it handle on the bike? and are they indexed?

Had this Walmart Raleigh for a year, which I thought was pretty decent for commuting, nothing breakdown for a year of commuting in snow or rain, and I think to myself "why do you need expensive bikes when such cheap bike is enough ?"

Then I switched to Raleigh sojourn just recently (can't pass on the sweet discount), and I finally realize 'what you pay is what you get', it is super light compare to my Walmart Raleigh, the bike really justify the price .

Hi,

Was too busy with too many projects and pastimes (including a lot of racing) to get this finished in a timely manner. Finally got it done near the end of 2012:

Only ridden it a few times and only one time to work so far. It's a combination of brand-spanking new and old to very old parts.

Thanks seansimp925, it's a single-speed. My route to and from work is relatively flat. Also, I geared it relatively low because this is part of a personal experiment to ride (to work) like the Dutch.

Thanks chaadster. For reference, Stop Cycles (One Ghost Industries) is the manufacturer. The model name is Proletariat.

Yes, Aquateen, I thought I would make lemonade out of lemons, given I had those extra brake studs staring at me after the move to disc brakes. They are Problem Solvers Brake Stud Mounts. Always catch other bike commuters staring at those things...

I ride a Felt X-City (Shimano 8-speed internal). Not many additions besides panniar, front and rear lights, bigger platform pedals (for those winter shoes).

Thanks Djyak. That is one of the bigger problems with those U-locks... finding place for it that doesn't mess up the look of the bike too much. This rack is nice cause it just kind of looks like it belongs in there. Almost won't see it unless you are looking. It's a Bontrager Disc rack of some kind...

Lovely bike - needs front fender! Shamless plug - I just put up a set for sale in this forum that would fit

Fit a Tubus Fly on my Trek 7.5Fx today, 'cause I was tired of carrying the backpack every day.
Together with an Ortlieb bag it looks pretty good imo.

(Oh yea, these limited edition Ortlieb were significant cheaper dan the classic ones. Don't ask me which country I live in....)
