What do you guys use for a bag stiffener? For the one barrel-style handlebar bag I made I used plastic embroidery canvas with meh results. It did allow me to sew molle straps all the way through the bag, but it's not as stiff as I'd like.

Individual sections prior to assembly (before discovering the mistake of cutting the original top too small).
The bottom, the main body of the bag, and the backside of the front pocket (white leather in top right attached to front pocket flap) have the foam stabilizer sandwiched between leather layers.
I used thick, dense, and layered white foam board to create the bottom for my rechargeable battery compartment.

For the past year I've been using In-R-Form Plus Unique Fusible Foam Stabilizer with good results.

Great thread! If it helps anyone, I have modified old Cannondale bags to use the Velo Orange decaleur and a porte-paquet for support. It's a simple modification but works quite well. The cross bar for the decaleur bolts to the plastic frame inside the bag. Easy peasy. (Bikes are a 1972 Motobecane Grand Jubile and a 1973 Peugeot AO-8, both built to my taste.)
