I don't know if all pickup beds are the same but.....my RAM has 2 vertical "slots" on either side of the bed (2 at the cab end and 2 by the tail-gate).
The "slots" fit a 2x6 perfectly. I thought about attaching a few fork locks to the 2x6" but most of my bikes don't have QR wheels (ie. PITA)
I use a hitch-rack that is shared between my RAM and my wife's Mustang....
