Eegads - the S2!? Let me know when you upgrade and want to hang that one on my wall (note: I will take it off the wall and ride it as soon as you leave).

My list of vintage CF would be for designs that showed milestone improvement, not whippy carbon tubed substitutions. They gotta ride significantly different from steel, aluminum and titanium offerings. Not meant to offend any proud owners, just how I'd spend my cash.
1. First offering of the Kestrel, in bright white finish. WOW!
2. Aegis full molded low/med modulus carbon. (basically cousin to Kestrel, same group)
3. LOOK (race proven)
4. TVT (also race proven)

I test rode one of the early Kestrel CF bikes way way back in about 19 and 89. Maybe 90. I remember well what a fantastically light and fast ride it was (being that all I had was a Varsity). I also recall it retailed for about $4,000 (what would that be like now? $9-10,000?)! That dealer had a lot of courage letting a 20 yo kid like me take off by himself with it, too. I weighed about 210-220# at the time too - another leap of faith

Only goes to show that time makes everything vintage, and a lot of it worthwhile collectible. 25-30 years from now we're going to be running threads on vintage Trek Madone's, etc. And a lot of people are going to be disavowing a lot of overly negative claims regarding carbon frames - assuming they'll even own up to having made the comments in the first place.

This is how I had my 56cm Trek 2300 built up when my wife rode it in her 1st triathalon last year (sans the saddle bag, of course):
She wants a road bike of her own now and has taken to calling her hybrid a "granny bike."
Sadly, the frameset now languishes in the rafters of our garage, pining for a new home.
Stan
on edit: the frameset has found its way to warmer climes and a new home.

I had one of theses (not my picture) 94 Epic Allez
Purchased at a garage sale for $100. Rode for a year and sold to a friend for $220. He rode it for a year and sold it for $350. I now see them regular on SF craigs in the $500's. I'd say it's getting collectable.

I think my interest in colorful bikes is related to my time as a semi-pro photographer and photo contest competitor (I paid the rent in undergrad working as a freelancer). I tend to look for color and how it contributes to or defines a scene. It's also kind of like ties -- one of the few apparel items where men have discretion to add color.

1999-2005 Trek OCLVs in Team colors. If you ride the same size, yours could have even come out of the same mold as Lance's ToF winners. Get 'em now while they're cheap; collect the whole set!

It can be really hard to collect Carbon Bikes.
They break into such tiny little pieces that it becomes very difficult to collect em all back up.

Upcoming classic - '93 Specialized Epic Comp - $300 (Morrisville)

I am selling my 1993 Specialized Epic Comp road bike. I have measured the size to be about 53 cm. This has to be the most beautiful carbon bike I have ever seen, and I think the lugged aluminum is going to become a classic.
Right now, I am really just interested in selling the frame because I want to use the parts on another frame that I have.
BUT if you have a road bike that you would like to trade, I am open to offers.
Currently the bike is set up as a single speed and is so so light, but I still have the original Shimano 600 parts that could be included as well.
Send me an email if you are interested.
