My source in the SEC doesn't seem too concerned.

Looks like we are in for about a 10 day stretch of 100 degree weather starting Saturday.

We are looking at a very pleasant low-80s for my daughter's softball tournament that starts Saturday, and continues though the following week.

I've seen pairs of blackbirds harassing crows who stray too close to their nest in the wrong season. Last month I saw a pair of crows similarly harassing a hawk. In both cases, the smaller birds are far more maneuverable. It's like fighter planes going after a bomber, but with the bomber not having turret guns.

Speaking of Tennessee, I was enjoying some C&V LRB videos when I spotted the vocalist sporting a Tennessee T-shirt. I think it says Tennessee Master??? Did he get his master's in corny '80s rock?

Just washed my bike and waxed my chain (not my helmet). Its 106 outside, was almost passing out and decided not to apply frame polish.

Normal summer. Ride early morning in areas with shade, come home and jump in the pool with a cold drink. Nap in the afternoon. Easy peasy.

Wake up before the sun. Spend 30-40 minutes trying to get a teenager out of bed. Drive a long ways. Watch teenager kick ass on a softball field for a bunch of hours, and chat with other parents who are doing the same thing. Drive a long ways. Collapse into the couch and go brain dead until it's time to go to bed, usually with a alcoholic beverage or two. Repeat the next day.
The odd days are when her first game is late in the day, and I can squeeze in the spicy Saturday ride, or the Sunday coffee ride, and have a chat with my bike pals...then, I start the process of disrupting the unconscious teenager.
Even more rare are the days when she doesn't have games. On those days, I linger a bit longer in the post-ride BS sessions, and roll home about noon. Usually, the wife, teenager, 2 dogs, and cat are all still sleeping. Those are rare days, indeed.
I have a pool. I've been in it once in the past 2 summers.
After next week, softball will be done for a month. Maybe, I'll give one of your days a try. It sounds lovely.

That's not what "normal summer" looks like to me. This is more familiar...

If it sounds like I'm complaining, I'm not really. I absolutely love having a front row seat to my daughter's journey in the game she loves, and we only have one more year of this before she heads off to college. We chose this life 6 years ago, and it's going to be a real shock to the system when it's done. I anticipate more days like the one you described.

I have arrived in the belly of the beast. Southeast Ohio. I brought my camping hammock, to learn how to sleep in it. Too hot in Yucatán. And it's too cold here. I am shocked. Shocked! At how cold it is in the morning. I checked before I came. It said lows
around 68 in July. More like 58. In two more days the low will be up to 68. I'll try it then.

I didn't feel like climbing today so I went to the bike path in the next valley to do some flat spinning. I found one of my friends riding there so we rode around for 3 hours and he bought me a coffee. I've known him since I was 17 and he and I are some of the last survivors of our group of friends. We were room mates with another friend who passed away in June. That roomie situation was in 1974. We see each other at funerals now. The suckiest thing about getting old so far.
Sorry, don't want to bring anyone down. Just thinking about this stuff a lot lately.
