Acorn Bags 8/9
Holy moly. Thought I was all on track to get a tall rando and medium rear bag right at 12pm. In the cart, but in the time it took to enter CC & address info the randos were sold gone. Then had to re-enter CC for just the rear bag and they were gone too. Geez. I guess they must be doing something right...

I got the e-mail saying the new batch would be available at 9 AM Pacific. When I looked at 9:45, only the handlebar bag was available.
This continued my pattern with Acorn Bags -- (1) get the e-mail announcing upcoming availability, (2) browse the various models to see what I might want, (3) admit that I don't need one, (4) convince myself to buy one anyway, (5) get in a little late to check availability, (6) decide that I don't really want any of the bags that are still available.
They look like really nice bags. I'm sure I'll get one eventually.

I really wish it had been set up so that if you put something in your basket you got it, rather than how fast you could enter CC/addy info (and that it didn't require you to re-enter all that info each time you got to 'place order' and got the 'this item in your order is no longer available' message....). They do look like nice bags.

Acorn bags is a husband and wife team - literally a cottage industry. They've come up with a successful business model, they sell out of bags every time they make a batch. I have a couple of their bags, they're top notch and well designed. Pricing is very reasonable. These are 10-20 year+ lifetime bags, IMO.

Hi my name,
Thanks for your feedback and please accept my apologies for the negative experience! My wife and I try our best, but unfortunately, like many other bike companies right now, can’t keep up with demand. We get so many orders coming in at once, that sometimes a customer will edge out another customer during checkout. I’ve spoken to Paypal/Shopify about this, but there is nothing they can do. I’m exploring other alternatives.
best,
Ron

I know nothing you can do. But I just wanted to let you know about the issue that I had with your site when I attempted to order a bag today. I waited until you opened, I immediately added the bags I wanted into my cart went to check out, I used paypal and went through the checkout which brought me back you your site. I guess it didn't pass my address on your site so I got prompted for an address (which shouldn't matter as you have to use the paypal address anyway) I got it entered and then it had to calculate shipping and by the time I clicked place order, the tall rando bag I have been waiting for was out of stock. I find that disappointing that the system can't hold onto a bag I have in my cart, until I check out. I know you are small and you will always sell out because your bags are great, but I cannot tell you enough how crappy this experience was when something can be taken out of your hands while you attempt to check out. That is truly crappy after waiting for as long we do.
Best Regards,

VO or Swift, maybe?
The Acorn stuff obviously fits a certain look, but if it's seemingly unobtainable...

Yeah, those are nice too, but... There's just something about those Acorn bags. They really just need to suck it up and contract with a factory in Shenzhen or Guangzhou.*

Nice bag.

However, I use a Swift Ozette/Peregrine and a Zeitgeist on my Fairlight Faran.
It's a coin flip between the two brands as far as quality goes.
I would likely give the nod to Swift though, as you can order one and have it shipped right now in a myriad of color schemes.

Swift, Ruth Works and Wizard Works are the others that I pay attention to.
Ruth Works is probably closest in terms of aesthetics. But I liken acorn to more of a Carradice bag, which fits a certain vibe which others do not.

I really like Acorn bags and have a lot of them (and have sold or traded a few I didn't use any longer). If I buy one, my strategy tends to be to log into the site roughly the time they become available and see what's left. If it's not one I already have, I'll likely buy it and figure out later what bike to put it on!

Give Dave Cain at Waxworks Bags a holler. He makes great stuff, and loves a challenge if you have something different in mind: https://www.waxwingbagco.com/

Me too! The quality is excellent and they are worth the wait. I will sometimes buy one in anticipation of my need and not wait until actual need. I don't know what color this batch was but some colors might be more in demand that others.
The PSA here about the upcoming batch may be partly to blame for the quick sell out. Hmmm, I wonder if anyone will mention the next batch?

I recently got an email from Velo Orange about 700c 36 hole rims in stock. I jumped on it and ordered a set (size and hole are unicorns right now, it would seem). After ordering I thought of putting in a PSA here, and checked stock. They were already out.
Stuff sells out quickly right now. The alternate for Acorn would be to raise prices so that demand and supply meet up. I'm sure many would complain about "greed" if they did that. It seems that Acorn is holding the line on pricing, even though their raw material pricing has probably increased.
Another +1 for Waxwing bags. High quality, custom, and Dave's lead times aren't too bad, and he delivers on time.
