A photo can be misleading, but I thought it was closer to 55 with 56 being the largest.

Im interested iPortlandjim has to say about this one. Definitely a custom geometry (56 TT and 65 st!) and an interesting combination of fittings with brake cable guides but no RD cable guide or shifter bosses.

Bottechia stay ends....

Every time I see one of these, I cringe at the stay end treatment.

Nice find! I also wondered abut the motorcycle company Indian... guess not. With those type of brakes, I figured it must be very old. However, from the links you posted it seems like they still (or at least recently) still make them like that. Weird.

Could well be, but come to Amsterdam and stand on a streetcorner, you'll see one of these go by before 2 minutes are up.
The woman on it might look like your grandmother, returning from shopping with bags full of groceries hanging from the handlebars.
And stay out of her path or she might have to slow down to miss you.

Happy to help with this one. It's near me and coincidentally I know the owner well. Had no idea he had a vintage bike.

Very interesting. Among thousands of Columbus tubing decals I can’t recall ever seeing one for a hybrid tube set (although seen hundreds for Tretubi variants) such as SLX-SP. Certainly frames were regularly custom built with mixed tubesets, I had an SLX-SP frame which may have had 531 chainstays, but the tubing decals didn’t reflect this. Heavier grade down tubes and chainstays, and occasionally top tubes, were often substituted, but if this was the case for this Masi the only true SLX tube left would have been the seat tube.

Also relatively unusual for SP to be involved in a frame as small as 54cm. I must look back at catalogues of the era…
