I rebuilt one of these for my nephew who used it as his college bike. Tough bike. Somehow it survived 4 years of college. . . .

A solid value for money, a tank compared to what Specialized proposes nowadays

I adore my 1988 'hopper (love that abbreviation) comp. My grandma and grandpa had matching comps and I was fortunate to get my grandpa's It has had many different iterations while under my possession the last ten years, but here is the latest. The green tape will be covered with leather tape soon, just not sure what color to go with yet.
This does it all, commuting, baseballing, S24O (soon), and perhaps most importantly, it exercises the dog.

Anyone interested on spending way too much on a fad-heavy "resto-mod" of the featured bike? https://madison.craigslist.org/bik/d...641486909.html
I'll take my $25 (okay, probably $45 with the wheelset gleaned from the random collection) beausage-finish version any day of the week and twice on Sunday. With the rust still showing in the nicks in the paint, my wife dubbed this one the "banana-Hopper".

I still have the frame for a '89 Rockhopper Comp I bought brand new. Am seriously thinking about having the frame restored/repainted, but haven't looked into if I can locate the graphics or decals as this is the blue/light ivory colored one with the funky '80s splash graphics on it.
I beat the living hell out of that thing and it shrugged it off, so yeah, they really were built like tanks.
