Front brake / carbon fork

Front brake / carbon fork
Would like to install a front brake on my Specialized Langster Pro. Stock fork. Would it be safe to drill out? If not, could I use a clamp on caliper? Any other options?

Do you think it is safe to drill into carbon? That one is on you. Personally if you want a brake you should get a fork with a proper hole or purchase a bike for road use rather than just a track bike.
I would not drill into carbon ever for any reason unless maybe it were a solid block of carbon but even then the danger of carbon splinters is not worth it at all.

Nope. Even the Keirin clamp-ons say not use them on carbon, not that they'd fit anyway.
I suppose you could try a Seisakusho adapter, but shoving an expander wedge up into a carbon crown/steerer sounds like a bad idea.

I'm not advocating that you try to drill the fork, however, unless it's a full carbon fork with a carbon steerer tube, then most likely the fork crown is aluminum, not carbon. So, theoretically it could be drilled safely. As to the Seisakusho adapter mentioned by Rolla , it would not fit since the fork crown will either not have an opening or the opening will be too small. I agree with the other posters that the best solution is to find a fork that matches your existing fork dimensions that is drilled for mounting a brake caliper.

According to the Specialized page for your bike, only the legs are carbon. The crown and steerer are aluminum. There's another dude on the internet from a while ago who post a blog and said his fork was drilled for a front brake with no issue (though not by him).

The 2013(?) Specialized Langster Pro I'm picking up in a few days is drilled for a front and rear brake.
(And for legal purposes, I'm not advocating for you to drill a hole in your fork or not. I'm only stating that it's been done).

If you are the original owner of the bike and purchased it through an authorized dealer you have a lifetime warranty on the frame and fork. You will absolutely void the warranty if you drill it. Specialized does stand behind their product (when my old Langster got a crack in the B.B. they replaced it with a new one).
