Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Compatibility of SRAM Force 22 crank with 105 group

Hello, I bought a Cannondale Synapse and I wanted to installl a 53/39 crank on the bike. The rest of the group is Shimano 105. Is a Sram Force 22 crankset doing to work well with a 105 group? I am reading they are optimize to work with the Yaw Sram derailleur, is this a problem?

These are my options, what do you think guys is the best for the bike in terms of performance?

-Sram Force or Rival crankset with Shimano 105 group

-Shimano 105 crankset with BB30 adapters and Sh 105 group

-FSA crankset (equivalent to 105) with Sh 105 group.

Is there other good BB30 crank that I could use?

I believe sram and fsa are the only companies that make bb30 cranks. But plenty of people including myself have used adapters with no issues. I would get whatever cranks you like best

This is what SRAM says about the Force Crankset, is there a problem in performance if I use this with a 105 derailleur?

"The stunning X-GlideR chainrings are optimized for use with the Yaw™ Technology in the front derailleur, delivering seamless, flawless performance"

You will be fine. Yes, the rings may be "optimized" for use with a Sram FD, but the general consensus is Shimano FDs shift better than Sram as a whole, so you will be find. (Please note, I use Sram drivetrains, and I still agree Shimano FDs probably shift better.)

You could also run a Shimano crank with either Wheels Manufacturing adapter cups or with an adapter BB from Praxis or Wheels Manufacturing.

The last option would be to purchase a set of Cannondale Hollowgram cranks off eBay.

in between a good BB30 crank or Shimano 105 crank with wheels manufacturing adapter, am I going to note any difference in performance?

No. But if you are going adapter might as well get the Praxis adapter. Praxis also makes some nice cranks and many swear by the Praxis chain rings

I have run exactly this combination before, 105 derailleur and force22 crank, and it worked fine.

thanks a lot for the input, and which one of those two do you thin it will work the best? 105 and Sram force crank or 105 crank with adapters?

I think what everyone has been trying to tell you is that they will both work. The question is which looks better to you? Personally I would go 105 to have a matching groupset. But then again I am riding a bike with parts from 4 different Campy groupsets and an FSA crankset
