WhyFi, when you traveled to SoVA, last year, did you carry the bike inside your car, or on a rack? I’m trying to explore options for the upcoming trip. It looks like there’s only a single shop that rents road bikes where I’m going and I missed their closing time yesterday to talk to them about the details.
In my calls to shops on the peninsula, road bike rentals were pretty spendy, IMO. I *might* consider it if I were flying in, but if I'm driving anyway, it's just easier (and probably cheaper) to figure out a way to bring it along.

Probably not the best idea, with the AQI in the mid to high 200s.
BUT it may have started blowing out. That cluster of 500s? It's now down to the 160-170 range. Mind you, the winds are blowing from them to me, so it might be a while before I see anything I'd want to go outside and breathe....

Priorities - I keep the bike in the car and I put the kids baggage in a Thule luggage compartment mounted on the roof rack.

So for the past two weeks I’ve been working on a huge RFP for my company that has severely impacted my ability to ride (have been too busy to do it).
We got it submitted Friday and the wife and I did a little celebrating because if the business lands, I’ll get a bonus of 1.5x my annual salary. As a result, my Saturday 100 turned into 100k. I’ll take it either way though.

I really do not want to keep the bike on a hitch rack for that long, but probably will have to, pending the call to the single bike shops that rents road bikes in the area.
Or I could run.....

It’s funny, when I am in good shape (like now) my cycling friends say “oh, he’s a doctor so he has access to the best drugs” and I hope they are joking but sometimes I wonder.

Our shop charges $200/week for an 11 speed Fuji Roubaix. Including pedals, if needed.

Yeah, I wish I took the virtual curb alert for a Thule roof rack in my neighborhood seriously a couple months ago .
I really do not want to keep the bike on a hitch rack for that long, but probably will have to, pending the call to the single bike shops that rents road bikes in the area.
Or I could run.....

I already had everything necessary to get my bike there, so it was basically a matter of bringing the luggage box, and taking the gas mileage hit, or not having to deal with that and spending a few hundred bucks on a rental that wouldn't be as nice as my own bike. It was an easy choice for me.

Anyone know much about stormwater drainage/management? The stupid Toll Bros development behind us initially dug a big basin for stormwater, which is reasonable and required. I understand the need for good stormwater management....
However, the land they are developing is FULL of sinkholes. So of course after a few rain storms, there were some sinkholes in the basin. They got someone to pour concrete into them and dug a larger drainage area.
The next big rainstorm saw more new sinkholes opening up and water literally FLOWING into one of the big sinkholes. I think I have a picture I will post, if I can find it.
So next, they dug like 20 feet deeper, laid out a HUGE bunch of rolled out material that looked kinda like shiny fabric, covered it all up with soil to make a newer drainage basin. That was about 1 month ago.
So far, there have been no new sinkholes that I see. HOWEVER, even several days after a rainstorm, there are several feet of standing, stagnant water in the drainage field. Not coincidentally, there seems to be a huge increase in the mosquito population.
My sense is that the material they buried to seal the basin prevents sinkholes by preventing water to percolate/drain, but at the expense of creating stagnant water and although I don't want to be a NIMBY about it, I am not happy about gettin eaten alive by skeeters in the evenings when that did not happen before.
Comments?
ps: pic of water flowing into sinkhole

And we didn't end up even getting the bikes for the fleet until July, because of manufacturing delays.
We just started renting our road bike fleet again a few weeks ago. There have only been a couple of takers.
