Bruce Freeman Rail Trail

Today I took the single speed for a little spin on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail in Acton. It was a nice trail and was in very good shape with lots of shaded areas. Out in Central Mass where I live we don't have such a nice trail like this. Sometimes it's just nice to get away from the steel bulls for awhile.

I didn't but will revisit this trail in the future. Thinking of trying the Minuteman for my first time next half day Friday.

some of my favorite rail trail pics were taken on the BFRT

a cpl tidbits might be interesting to you here

re: the Minuteman, there are lots of variations of rides. my staple is Bedford Depot (pizza shop nearby) to Spy Pond Arlington. before the last mile or so is the Kickstand Cafe w/ excellent refreshments such as small apple juice, cold water, coffee, fresh baked goods & sandwiches. they also have year 'round restrooms, wifi & outdoor seating. I've taken the trail as far as Cambrige w/ a turnaround at Alewife Station. but using roads one can easily continue on to the Charles River, Fenway Park & Boston Harbor. I suppose one can piece together a route from Lowell to Boston Harbor using roads & the Bruce Freeman, the Assabet Rail Trail, route 62 to Concord, Reformatory Branch Trail to the Minuteman in Bedford, then that to Cambridge, then Fresh Pond Parkway w/ some sidewalk mixed in for safety, Memorial Drive to Anderson Memorial Bridge over the Charles, then I don't remember what else. the time(s?) I rode to Boston I used route 20 & North Beacon Street from the West. this might be the ride. or I might be thinking of another time from my temp apt. in Natick using route 135 & 16 ... lol too many moons ago to remember clearly

get a quiet August Sunday & one can rule the Metrowest -East domaine with carefree abandon. it's always cool when a ride takes you from one very different geographic area to another

the "MM" is good in the winter if you can't find anywhere else to ride cuz they plow it. just found an old ride see post# 8533 here
