New Condor Frame pics. Looking for more info.
Hey guys,
I just started taping the video on my Condor build. I'll post some pics here. I'm trying to find out what year it was built.
The condor company said it was late 60s or early 70s.
They also said it was the Superbe Model with the Superbe cut lugs. According to the CR site the lugs were made by Bill Hurlow the main builder.
It has Zeus drops and the number 738 stamped on it.
I mentioned to the folks at Condor that I can NOT find another one painted in this paint Scheme other than on the cover of Richard Ballentine's book and they said that they all had custom paint and that isn't unusual to not find another one like it.
Plus. Mine had an engraved seat post and stem that came with it (pictured) Not sure if that was a factory thing or an aftermarket thing.
The rear derailleur was stamped 74 and the crankset has a (4) on it.
If you have any additional info please let me know. The video on this bike will be out this coming Friday.
Thanks
John Haboush

Found on the web a while back
Edit:
And here's a 1966 Superbe in the Condor shop window

1952 No 1 in the same window.
I bid on a beaten up No 1 a few years back

I have a ‘73 Condor Italia, serial #7349. I believe that’s past the time Bill Hurlow was involved, so perhaps that 3-digit serial = 1967?

BICYCLING! magazine did a feature on Condor in the seventies
me guess be that it may have been around seventy-four
included were detail photos of two bespoke frames produced
one was for a history professor or asked for a theme of the Battle of Hastings
the other was done for a rock star who asked for guitars and musical notes on his frameset
the Condor name can be a source of confusion as there are also some very nice Condor cycles produced in Der Schweiz by an unrelated maker
Condor | Swiss Bicycles | A website about Swiss Bicycles
https://classicrendezvous.com/countr...erland/condor/
the most beautiful Condor (UK) ever saw was in person about 1972-73
it was antique white with blueberry trim
seen only once over fifty year ago and yet memory remains sharp

Hi John:
Great Condor you've got there. Love the colour.
I have 2 Condors and each has a 4 digit s/n stamped once on the frame and once on the steerer. My '67 with #1 lugs has the s/n on the bottom bracket while the '76 Sienna has a s/n on the NDS drop out. Have you checked the steerer tube for a s/n? FWIW, my '76 Sienna has Zeus dropouts and fork ends like your frame while the '67 has Campagnolo.
At one point the Condor website had a section on "identifying your vintage Condor cycle" and it included references to lugs and s/n's - I just had a quick look and didn't see that section on the website.
WRT to the 'engraving' I have a Campagnolo post with the same engraving and I once found a picture on the net with the same engraving on a Zeus post. Not sure what that means as to who did the engraving.
FWIW, notice how the bird is facing right on the Condor head badges while the engraved seat post's bird is facing left.
The aftermarket decal on the seat tube (which I think I purchased form H Lloyd?) has an entirely different looking Condor and the address is 144 Grays Inn Rd while the headbadges have the original 90 Grays Inn Road address. Their current website shows the address as 49-53 Gray's Inn Road. the shop hasn't moved far in it's nearly 80 year history.
Condor has in the past sold a book called Past Present Future which has interesting articles about the company and its history.
Enjoy your new frame.
Cheers.
Brad
