Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Managed ten miles yesterday. high fifties, windy, light rain at times.
Some work on seat, moved it back some, brought the front up a bit,
Moved the shifters down some. Going to bring the bars back
and up a bit.

The bike feels good. The gear ratios could be a bit closer, but
not a big thing. The aero bars will take some getting used to.
Used them several times, no problems.

Overall, I am very happy with the bike.

Only downer is the seat mounted bottle holder
ain't gona cut it. The bottle are too high, hit
my butt when all the way back on the seat and
it is hard to mount, dismount without hitting
the bottles. I am going to make a bracket,
aluminum angle, to lower them 2 1/2', that
will put the top at seat height.

Post some pictures later today if the weather permits.

I posted the pic's in the hybrid section, it fits there better I think? Have about 100 miles on it now, still
making a few adjustments, but all in all, very happy with the bike, with light wind, down on the bars,
near 30 mph with out a lot of strain.

cough, cough, bull****, cough, cough, bull****, cough.

As high as those pads are, even in the aerobars you're pushing a brick wall into the wind.

With an excellent aerodynamic position on a TT bike, 30mph, takes around 450 watts. On that setup it would be about equivalent to riding with your hands on the tops of drop bars, maybe even less aero. That calculates out closer to 800 watts.

Fabian Cancellera coukld not maintain 30 mph for a sustained period on that bike, with that setup.

Is it just me or does that top tube actually slope down towards the front a bit?

I did about a mile, a couple times. I guess you would call it more of a sprint. For me it like climbing Everest, exploring
the Titanic the same day. Remember, four years ago, at 318lbs, I was struggling to do 8 miles in two hours. It took six
hours the first time.

What did I end up with? Something I am really enjoying!

That's still 2 minutes around 800 watts. Not impossible, but an extremely solid effort for a Cat 2, and an effort that no one on the planet could objectively say didn't take much effort.

It has been a year, the bike has about a thousand miles on it. 68 in a day was best effort.
No, it is not the most comfortable bike I own, It may be the most fun bike I own.

For what I spent I am very happy with the end product.

Working on another version now. Late 80's.

BTW, Javelin bikes are made in Italy. Some are made in
Little Rock Arkansas. This one and the one I am working on
both are Little Rock built. The one I am doing now is a bare
frame, never built I got from the CEO of Javelin. They had
four frames left that were never done. I have all of them.
I am doing one and Mom's chauffeur is doing one.

Will post some details when it is done. It is a bargain build
with a lot of used period parts. The tires are a bit of a problem,
1X26 barely fits the frame. 650's rub the brake caliper, and
700's won't even reach the dropouts.

Unless he had that secret motor installed....

The fastest tt in the Tour over 20km is about 33.9mph (54.5kph). Greg LeMond. Still. 1989. The ride to Paris. About the first time for aero bars and helmet...bad positioning. They didn't know any better. Can you imagine if he did that today with modern equipment?

I love this place. No matter how lousy a day I may be having, I can always count on getting a chuckle.

I went to Javelin's website....love this, "If you do not ride a Javelin, you are just not competitive with those that do." Got it.

I am curious, as I do not know much about this company.

I went on their website and they mention Italy and the mention "American Engineering (which in bike parlance means someone drew a picutre of it in the US which is fine, the majors do the same thing)....what are they making in Little Rock?

There's a clipped photo of a bike team on their bikes, with TIAA-CREF as the sponsor who, at one point was the primary sponsor on the team that Jonathon Vaughters originally started before going to the pro tour with Garmin (fill in the blank on the secondary as it's changed over the years).

They tout a British tri-athlete as their "pro"...

Anybody know anything about these guys? Decent dealer network, although most seem to be tri shops (based on the names).

They hand build a few bikes for the Olympics. All design work is done in Little
Rock. They are a low key company. More of a hobby it seems.

This is not mine, but it is what we are working on. Mine is black and gold.

Mine is a 22" frame. I ride 54cm frames so it is just a bit bigger, but don't plan on riding this thing that much.
As I said, that is not my bike, just a pic I found. The frames I have are 20, 22 and 24". Someone else is doing
the 24".

If you ride that thing you need to get one of those cone shaped TT helmets and a sleeveless jersey or you'll look out of place.
