I'll be following your journey. I had one of the first 4000s on the East coast when they first came out. Loved the bike..... cracked the frame late in it's life and got a 200 SCI from Kestrel as a replacement frames. I still have it, although I ceased riding 5 or 6 years ago.

Look forward to pictures and descriptions of your build.

Bike on!!!!

Back in the early 90's, I had a white Kestrel 4000 built with Campy stuff before there was ergo shifters.
The Kestrel that I currently have is from late 90's.. and still works for me.

Not much selections in wider 650 tires, you can try 26x1.0 tires, but that might not clear the 650 frame or fork.
I stocked up with 650x25c tires when they were on close out few years back, still have a few pairs in my basement

The Kestrel 4000 was a true ground breaker. Waaay ahead of its time. To a teenager in the 1980s, it was straight out of a science fiction novel. Looking forwards to your rebuild. Cheers!

Nicely illustrated why not to buy a used carbon frame bike!

The flame Kestrel is mine

I'm new here.

Just wrote a long post and it died before it found the internet.

It's not a recent restore. The bike was sold like this in 2014ish. I just got it recently.
