Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Valve Extender for 85mm tubular rim and Continental Sprinter

I am about to purchase Cane Creek Sprint 85 track wheels with 85mm carbon rims. I am going to be using the Continental Sprinter tires and I am wondering what valve extender to use? Will the 40mm extender from continental be long enough for 85mm rims? How long is the valve stem on the tires? To my knowledge, the Continental extender replaces the core and you put the original core on top of the extender which should nearly double the length.

These rims are just a little deeper than the 81mm Zipp 808 rims, and I figure people here have experience with them.

P.S. Can't seem to correct the typo in the title, can a moderator help out?

no.
i have spinters on my 50mm bora's with 40mm extenders and they just fit.
you will need a 74mm which is the size supplied with 808s

the sprinters are durable but not great tires.
you can get a better rolling track tire since i assume your 85mm will be track racing only.

Sweet. Thanks for the response. Any recommendations on which 74mm valve extender to get? I see no mention of extenders being provided with the Cane Creek Sprint 85s.

As for tires, while they are track only, I won't always be on a velodrome. I hope to get to Richmond area and do some of the Go Fast Turn Left series which is on a car track, so not a smooth surface. Any recommendations for tires?

I like Vittoria's valve extenders. They are a little more involved to install, but they place the actual valve at the end of the extender, not deep within the depths of the rim where only paper clips dare to tread.
