Second day with my new MTB. My legs were a bit toasted, but still had a great time!

52 miles today - rode to downtown Indy and did the pre-race ride before the Indy Criterium. Almost 400 folks showed up. We took a lap around the course and then out of town and then back again.

Birthday is tomorrow so I got my ride in today. Since I double my age and add a bit I made it out of the house with the Paramount at 1:18AM this morning to a SW FL HOT and HUMID night. Didn't take too long before my kit was as wet as if I was in a frog choker down pour. Took it slow and easy while listening to tunes from my IPOD hooked to a remote speaker. Back to the house with 77.01 non stop miles at a 17.3mph average.
Prepped the Giant, showered, clean dry kit, grabbed a bite to eat and drink then out to the LBS for the start of their ride and finished on my own. Got in another 64.6 miles for a 141.61 total. Doubled my age of 66 plus just enough to make me happy.

Such a windy day!
21.9 miles in and around Hanover Park, Carol Stream, Winfield and I don't even know where all!
Stopped for a hot dog and a beer at one place and a small burger & iced tea (sugarless) at another.
Good day!
Now it's time for gin & tonic!

Today was spent mostly with grandkids.... but I did get in a nice little 10 mile ride. I even made time for a outdoor café coffee stop. Good times.

Ugh. I know that feeling. I finally broke down and bought some padded bike shorts this spring/summer after encountering the dreaded swampbutt rash. Cotton boxers just weren't cutting it for this muggy weather. I've had to skip riding for a couple of days at a time while the cracked skin heals a bit.
FWIW, a nice soak in epsom salts really helps. Along with a poultice of witch hazel, zinc oxide ointment, a fungicide ointment and a topical anesthetic. I'm guessing it's a recurrence of a tinea fungus from school sports decades ago. That stuff never really gets cured, just put into remission.

Rode about 30 miles yesterday, sorting out the last mechanical gremlins in my Japanese Roadster/City Bike build. The Fuji Royale 441 chrome moly frame is wonderful, and adapts to its new role quite easily. Unfortunately, the Sturmey Archer AW couldn't find a home in the Suntour forged dropouts until I mated it to a Surly Hurdy Gurdy. Now it is rock steady in there, with no more slipping. Having rerouted the shift cable to the "high road" configuration, I have no more heel strikes to the cable.
I also changed out the Gye's leather saddle (Taiwan mfg.?) for my Brooks Flyer. The Gye's had developed an annoying creak in the springs/leather interface, and I didn't want to waste time troubleshooting it during riding season. I'll add that to the queue for this coming winter.
Here are some of the shots I took down along the Mississippi River, from the Saint Paul (north) side this time:
Right down to the water's edge at the barge docks.
Across the river from the Minnesota Centennial Showboat.
This old warehouse is some kind of museum now, where grain used to be loaded into barges.

I went to the Chicago Blackhawks Prospect Camp today! Got home late. Jumped on my bike and _OH NO A FLAT_.
Grabbed my daughter's road bike. Peeled off 9.2 miles in record time. I'm trying to learn how to use Strava and I find it very confusing compared to MapMyRide.

52 Screamer miles with favorite stoker on a club ride in the countryside around Greenfield, IN. Mostly flat but enough rolling hills to keep things interesting.

Just six miles Sunday night, mostly to test out a new Ion Speed Pro video camera (well built, but totally unsuitable for nighttime video with poor low light performance). Asthma problems the past few days, can't seem to catch my breath while riding.

It's been quite windy here for several days but I went out anyway for 19.6 on the Allez. Pushed the speed up to 25mph for over a mile (with a tailwind). That's seriously good for me.

Just a very short, very gentle, 6 mile ride through the neighborhood side streets. I'm recovering from sciatica, back pain, etc... and have to slowly get myself back in shape.
