Does anyone know this wheelset?
A couple years ago I bought a 2016 GURU Photon and the original owner had these wheels on the bike. They are claimed to weigh 1295 g for the set. I replaced them with MAVIC USTs and am thinking of selling them. Just wondering if anyone has info or experience that might help me to decide what to do with them. I have no idea when they were new or what a sale price might be. Scroll down to see pic.

I have the Mavic Ksyrium Elite WTS, W stands for wider (17 mm internal width), which was the generation before UST when Mavic went tubeless (but stayed at 17 mm). IIRC, from when I was shopping for my wheels and learning about Mavic alloy wheels, the R-SYS SLR is another generation older (15 mm) but the top of the line model of that generation.

Those Mavic R-SYS wheels got a bad rap due to some QC issues with the carbon fiber spokes breaking. They are very light but not aero and a bit narrow compared to current model wheels. They are still decent wheels, you may want to search ScamBay to see how much they are worth. I would guess in today’s market you could get a few hundred bucks for the set if in good shape.

FWIW with those wheels sans pedals my Guru Photon weights 14 lb 7oz. I thought that was pretty light.

Bad rap or not, with so little to recommend those wheels, I’d just say no to the Wheels fo Death.

If you have a Wheelset of the generation with the exploding spokes, there is probably significant corrosion around the valve holes that would mean I would very much not ride the wheels. The later carbon tracomp spokes have been pretty solid, and I for one really, really like how the wheels ride, (for alloy clinchers) regardless of internet aero talking points and/or spokes exploding on an earlier version of the wheel from 15 years ago.
