question on bicycle rack for car
My wife will be wanting to take an occasional ride with some friends of hers this summer. Normally we haul our bikes in my pickup with a Beddy Jo rack and a hitch rack if needed. She will be using her car during these times. Does anyone out there have a Saturn Ion with the rear spoiler? If you do what kind of bike rack will fit this car? The bumpers on the newer cars won't take any weight so I need to find one that will clear the spoiler. Mods if this it in the wrong section please move to the appropriate one. Thanks a bunch.

I have this rack and I use it on my 2006 Chevy Malibu with rear spoiler:
I'm sure you can find one just like it in your neck of the woods. The aforementioned Saris Bones is a great rack I'm sure (they stock it at my LBS) but mine was about a third of the cost and works great.

As a last resort, can the Ion accept a cheap 1.25" hitch? The Thule 945sp is dirt cheap at Performance, and comes in a 1.25". Rock solid, too. I just put one on my Jeep.

Id go with the hitch rack. More expensive but a LOT more secure of a set up that is less likely to damage the car and the bike.
Personally I like this style rack. https://www.performancebike.com/bikes..._400007_400170 If I was going to go buy a rack today that would be the one I would be coming home with.
