I like that frame but the blue rims need to go. Black rims would look a lot better.

Drop bars without brake levers accessible from the drops seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

The last time I took my VW in for service they had a couple of bikes like this in lieu of courtesy cars. Had I not brought my own bike along with me I might have used one

28.4lb is bad, even for a cheap steel frame bike. This is a single speed bike rolling on 28mm tires. There is no reason for it to weigh this much.

There's a typo on the Placard. It should be 24.8lbs. It was bothering me enough that I went to State Bike Co. website.

State Bike Co.

I also think that their direct offerings are a lot better looking colors and handlebars than you would get at U-Haul. Although the bull horns get only the interrupter brake levers again. When I called it clever earlier, I didn't mean it in a good way. Clever in that most users will ride on the tops and not use the drops so why add a primary brake lever if most customers won't use it. They opted to save money.

The bikes from State Bike Co. look to be essentially the same bike (with better colors).

Sorry, U-Haul, I think your orange and silver motif would have looked better. And maybe a U-Haul logo on the down tube. This way when you are going way fast, people will look at you speeding by and say "U-Haul". I you'd be like "Yea, I sure do".

  • A lot of people have hitches installed (and no trailer wiring) for the express purpose of getting a bike rack, never intending on towing a trailer.
  • Not wanting to loose out on some sales, U-Haul offers a number of hitch-mount bike racks for sale.
  • Having a bike rack displayed makes a lot more sense with a bike on it, so your in-store display setup also includes that State fixie.
    • It's a pain to deal with 'demo models' of product in inventory, so making the bike a saleable item means when the time comes to get it off the floor, you can sell it through your regular sales system.
Solid point. If you've got the thing on display anyway then you may as well put a price sticker on it and keep a couple of them in a box in the back.

Well, at least it looks better put together than the bikes at Costco. Was there this last weekend and the display model bikes looked like they were built up by a first-grader…

I rode a couple of State bikes when testing for a small socal bike mag and they were solid, well-spec'd values. AFAIK, most of their sales are direct to consumer.

Instant transportation to the next town.

Ha ha, I remember renting a U-Haul for a cross-country move. The rental was $1100, the U-Haul store said they would sell me the truck outright for $1300. I was tempted, but I passed, and just paid for the rental. In the middle of nowhere, in New Mexico, between Gallup and Grants, the engine in the truck came apart. Luckily, I was also hauling my car on a dolly behind the U-Haul truck, so I was able to drive to a truck stop, call U-Haul on a payphone, and have them send someone to tow the truck to Grants, and then bring another truck. U-Haul was kind enough to pay $15 for a night at an old Route 66 motel.
