Hello.

Hello, am rather new to cycling. Started two weeks ago, and I am 16, weighing 58kg's. But I do indeed have a tiny problem. I'm working out, lifting etc. and I still feel like I have a little bit of fat in my chest, and most in my butt. Is cycling going to help me anywhere from there to lose that weight on a strict diet?

Everyone has fat. You can never get rid of it all. If you do you're at risk of dying.

You can work out all you want, if you don't watch what you eat you'll never have that "chiseled" body.

Are you a guy or a girl? Because if the ladder, I would expect you to have a bit of fat on your chest, if the former then I'm wondering why you're worrying about your butt.

Seriously, go outside and have fun and play. You shouldn't be worried about a small amount of fat at your age. You're not even through puberty completely. Your body is going to be changing a heck of a lot over the next few years.

if you consider that fat, you must be really short...have fun, ride the bike...eat correctly and the rest will take care of itself...welcome to the forums and the sport.

In the English weighing system (non metric), that's 127.6 pounds. You don't say how tall you are so it doesn't tell us much. My guess however is that most 16 year old kids in the US weigh more that that. Of course, a good percentage of the 16 year old kids are either overweight or obese. Unless you are really short in stature, that's not much to worry about.

Im 5'3 at roughly 125 lbs (short & skinny)...even at 5' at that weight, its not overweight or anything to worry about. Plus, you are 16! Your body is still going to change quite a bit. When i was 16 I weighed 140lbs and by the time I was 19-20yrs old I was the weight I am now (age 27, same height as 16) and id never worked out or anything in those years. I kept my "baby fat" for a long time. I once read somewhere that many people are still growing/changing until atleast 21 years old...Long time ago, but i think thats the age I read. Anyway, its good you are being active though, keep it up!

I've been riding partially to lose weight, partially to have a healthier body, and partially for fun. But no amount of riding helped me lose anything until I changed my diet. It's just a simple fact of life, I guess. Now I'm down 30 lbs and still working on it, but I don't credit the riding so much for weight loss as I credit it for making me feel better by getting regular exercise. Seems like I sleep better and have more energy. Of course running/jogging or other forms of exercise will do that too, it's just that biking is my preferred mode.
