I've been super busy lately making trips up to Albany to view houses, three trips within the last seven days. The closing on our current house is at the end of August so it's time for us to do some serious house-hunting and serious packing/moving out of here.
At the same time, I checked in on an Albany Toyota dealer and lo and behold he has (almost) in his possession a new blue 4Runner for me. For months I had been looking all over the Hudson Valley to find a blue one and nobody was expecting one any time soon, so I'm thrilled to find this one up here. Now if only the house hunting would be so serendipitous.
The next 4 weeks will only add to the madness as I travel to NYC daily to photograph a basketball tournament I normally shoot every year to help send kids to college.
Let me see, what else can I fit on my plate. That's usually exhausting, so I doubt you will be seeing much of me for awhile.

in '81-82, I worked for a firm writing appellate briefs in plane crash cases. I would write them out by hand, give it to a typist, and she would type them on a IBM selectric. If I made a revision on page 5, she would retype the whole thing from that page forward. They were typically ab 50 pages long.

The IBM Electric was the typewriter of choice in the 70s. I typed up many a term paper on those in the last-minute wee hours of the morning with one of those.
My wife started out on punch cards, in the early 70s. When I started hanging out at her house, in 86, she had a desktop with monitor, and 5 1/2" floppies. She was a computer whiz in those days, and had a small business trouble-shooting and teaching at Communiversity. D-Base 3 was it? I remember she taught me some dos commands so I could get around with Netscape. The wild wild west of the internet. I'm glad I was able to experience it in its infancy.

Those were some awful days, BUT they kept a lot of people employed.
The IBM Electric was the typewriter of choice in the 70s. I typed up many a term paper on those in the last-minute wee hours of the morning with one of those.
I started out on punchcards taking undergrad statistics classes, that's where I honed my first love of computers. But what a pain in the ASS if you made the slightest error in your submittal.

one of the first systems I was on was a PDP something ... maybe PDP11 ... then maybe VAX 11 / 780 or something like that (?) ... Prime ... 750 (?) ...
this was prior to IBM mainframe ... although we still had DEC machines at locations
guy I worked with was going for PhD at the time - he was on a Cray ... XMP ... YMP ... something like that (?) ... it was the fastest computer on the earth at the time ... there were two in existence

I went to a clinic in a hole-in-the-wall town 20 km away, rather than subject myself to the insanity of the city. She was instantly suspicious because I was from a different town, but wrote me down anyway. They are not permitted to open the ten pack of vials until they have ten arms ready. I was number three. She expects to call me tomorrow.

New jersey arrived a few minutes ago. My first full zip. Dayglow green. A little clingy around the middle but that's how they cut them these days. I was anxious for this one to arrive, to see if I want to order another of the same brand. I think I do.
