New Domane SL5 Gen 4 discount?
I’m just about ready to replace my old bike and I have picked the Domane SL5 Gen 4 as the likely choice. My only local dealer has the 2023 in stock and he won’t budge from the $3,500 MSRP. I can order the improved 2024 (12 speeds versus 11, better seat, and better ISO) for the exact same price.
I read in a trade magazine that most manufactures, including Trek, overshot the Covid shortages and are now swimming in inventory and discounting bikes.

Look on the Trek website, they’ve been running sales as have the shops. You can do an inventory search to see if it’s available in your size at a local shop and on sale. I just picked up an Emoda SL 7 at 20% off MSRP at a local shop. It was a great deal.

I checked the Trek website. There are some discounts, but none on SL5.

Shop's probably just trying to pay the bills. Shop has already bought and paid for that bike. I didn't see anything saying Trek was going to rebate dealers for selling 2023 or 2024 models. Nor did they get specific about which models might be involved.

Which means that, if the OP has found the correct size in the 2023, he can ask the shop to order in the same size in the 2024, since it is the same price. If the shop really wants to move the 2023 version, they'll then offer a discount on it.

Alternatively, the OP can order either version directly from Trek's website and choose whatever dealer is most convenient, or deserving. But it would probably be good to mention this to the shop, just to gauge how flexible they might be with the price.

Frames are identical, as far as I know. But 11 speed versus 12 speed is one difference. R7000 versus R7100 group set. Also, I think that on the 2024’s the Iso Speed has been tuned to better accommodate smaller frame sizes. The seat is different too, with bigger cut outs.

Trek made revisions to the IsoSpeed twice during 2023 to address seat post slippage, so there could very well be a difference between the available 2023 model and a new 2024. Maybe do a little homework before you repeatedly attempt to say someone is wrong...

Those seat post clamp in the initial run of the Gen 4 had issues that they put out a recall on. My Gen 4 which I picked up in Oct 2022, never had issues with seat post slippage, but the shop replaced it anyway a year later. I have not heard of any of the new post clamps having issues.

Hmmm, I'm looking for a new groupset. Maybe buying the whole bike and selling the frame on eBay would be the most cost-effective option.......
