A tour to Eclipse all others
Saturday, October 14th, 2023: path of annular solar eclipse in NA in pink.
Monday, April 8th, 2024: path of total solar eclipse in NA in blue.
Rough sketched on the Adventure Cycling routes map.
My plan is to be on the road in central Texas next April.

Sorry, had house guests; just now getting back to this. From the AmTrak station in Fort Worth to the AmTrak station in Del Rio.
Mostly country lanes. All but a few hundred meters paved. Camping at regular intervals.
On the black lines, ~1 minute of totality. In the middle of the black lines, ~4:30 totality.

(bonus: peak wildflower)I was the only one in my family and workplace who thought it might be worth taking a day off and driving a couple hours to see the one in 2017. Nobody would believe me when I told them, "I've seen partial solar eclipses before. But there's a qualitative difference between the impact of a partial and a total eclipse." Based on that, I guess you have to experience it yourself to understand, so I hope you do get to see it!
But 4-5 hours up, and the same back, when I've seen it once? I'm not so sure about that.

Totality. Wow. The light, glorious other-worldly light. The glorious lack of light! Ducks came in to roost on the lake. Cows headed to the barn. The horizon of twilight - all the way around, 360deg.
10 of 10. Recommended.
Long swath across the US. Perhaps a little chilly up north for bike touring.

Tip: eclipse viewing glasses are inexpensive now. They'll be pricey to unavailable by March.
