Thanks for the info, I just ordered the mirror and contacted Sella An-Atomica about cutting my saddle. I had head once a while back from someone else who had the same thing done but didn't know if I wanted to try that yet. After this last trip though, even though my Flyer Special was great, I had a few painful days and now I think I'm ready to have it circumsized.
I couldn't do that to my beautiful Brooks, not without a lot of pain!

Here's Team Bad Boy. One of them had a 55 gallon drum made into a grill. They rode almost 500 miles that week with all that crap. And yes, they carried all their camping gear too.

Here's a quick picture of my bike loaded for my last touring trip, 800km in 6~7 days to the North/West Quebec region of Abitibi. Sadly my fork doesn't have bosses for low-riders, that'll have to wait till my next tour before I invest. I already had converted the bike to road/touring/cyclocross (really look at it and tell me which one you think it is ;) from a run of the mill hybrid. Rides nicely, albeit it's a bit high thus not as stable as I'd like once loaded.

Concerning the Sella An Atomica...please don't do that to your Brooks, BUT next time you need a new saddle consider the An Atomica, handmade in Wisonsin, leather seems nice and I've put about 1,500 on one this summer, considering another one for a vintage build if I can't find exactly what you want. PM me if you want any more details. (I don't work for them, or get deals from them just fond them ins a distributors catalog at the shop and took a chance)

1. where did you get that huge version of a bandana?
2. what kind of pump is that, and how well does it work? it looks stout, and I'm looking to retire my mini pumps. they don't work for crap.

Its a Topeak. Not sure of the exact model. It's a nice pump, has a pressure gauge and all right on it. But I must admit, though I use this riding around home I didnt use it once on our tour. We took an actual full-sized floor pump. And didnt regret it for a minute. Even though this pump isnt too difficult to use, with 4 bikes it was worth having the full-size when 3 bikes have flats in a single day.

thanks for the answers. sounds like the floor pump was a good idea. I will consider the same on my next tour. I have an all plastic one that is not too heavy.

My bike and my ugly mug outside of Bend, OR this summer on my cross country tour (from Newark,DE-Florence,OR)
Bike is a 1985 Schwinn Voyageur. Got it for $15 at the thrift store next to where I work. Size 52cm st and 55 cm tt. My custom size is a 51.3x55.5. Had a new brooks saddle and an old Campy derailleur on it along with lowrider rack braze ons and cantilever brakes and a 40 spoke rear wheel. Now rocks a Shimano Deore rear derailluer and will be getting a 700c wheelset now that the 27" set is pretty much thrashed.

Funny you should focus on the bandana. I am seriously impressed by the shoes!
I wasn't too keen on the idea of stuffing my dirty and/or smelly shoes in with my clothes every day for 3 months. So this seemed like a good option. My friend thought it was stupid and that it would cause to much wind resistance, but thats thing about fully loaded touring, who cares about those kinds of things?!

Here's my second homebuilt on a month-long trip in Ireland. And the other's my Screamer just before we left for Idaho and Montana this summer. The first trip I traveled with few luxuries besides my Whisperlite stove. This summer we packed a solar charger, iPod with splitters, GPS and cell phone...in addition to our new Whisperlite. I'm not sure I'd pack so much hi-tech gear again. Do the rest of you pack electronics?
