30 Years Ago: December 1991 in Bicycling magazine

Articles included in this thread:

Inside: The Naked Truth (editorial)
Quick Releases (news items)
"Old Glory"
Off the Back: You Can't Do It, Greg.
And possibly my favorite ad of all time (RIP Brian Maxwell)

Road Tests of SPECTRUM Titanium Randonnee and DE ROSA Nuovo Classico will be posted separately in a few days.
Otherwise, as usual, let me know if you'd like to see something else listed in the ToC and I'll add it in a reply to this post, post it separately, or send or post a pdf.

Happy Holidays to all!

Am I the only one who thinks Power Bars taste terrible? I don’t want to find that box under my tree!

Thankyou so much and it's funny to see the magazine get so race centric in the later years. It's why I quit buying them. Still fun to read now.

You're welcome 52t.
I've been thinking of changing things up in January 2022 to slow the pace a little while still sticking to 30 years ago being the youngest limit for C&V.
One thought is to post 50-, 45-, 40-, and 30-years ago on consecutive weekends each month.
The recurring Road Test/Bike Review and Equipment/Product Review posts are all caught up through 30 years ago, so it's easy to stay current (i.e 30 years ago) with those.
Another thought is to start recurring posts in a few other categories -- Tours & Touring, Bike People, and Prices are on my short list. Maintenance and Repair is another, but I've wondered if that adds much value to this group given the ton of reference books on the subject over the last 50 years.
I'll also start posting more articles from Bike World and Bicycle Guide in 2022.

Ha! I had that same thought while scanning the pages.
And my second thought was it's only going to get worse.

The wrappers, however, do make for excellent tire boot material.

I still have a copy of this. Referenced it a few times when building wheels.
