New to the forum - Hello
I have recently relocated to North Carolina from Illinois where I had an old Trek hanging in the rafters for years.
I was going to toss it before moving but am glad I kept it as I want to use it here.
Anyway, I found this forum and hope to get a little education on what I should expect to pay to put the bike back into roadworthy condition and maybe meet some local riders.

@jmurray110 - Cost to get a bike running = $100 (cable, housing, tires), some tools, + YouTube vids. Ask your confounding questions here on BF. If you still like the ride of the Trek then a bearing overhaul is the next step, easy enough too with tools, grease and instructional videos. Amazing how proud you will be!

I usually wrench on all my own stuff, cars, motorcycles, etc...
Just relocated to N.C. and don't have my tools unpacked yet.
But, I agree with you on putting in the work.

Some cycling specific tools, for those thin and/or unique connections necessary for an easy and less frustrating experience.
bottom bracket wrench
headset wrench
wheel bearings
'3rd hand' brake tool
a sharp cable & housing cutter
a few metric driver sizes
consult Park Tools, but they do not have to be the most expensive for the occasional user.
and Welcome to BF.
we love pictures.
An old Trek, but not a hanger.
